J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Cattle, OTMS, Stirks & Calves, Thursday 2nd April 2026

STIRKS

Averages:
Bulls - £1283.33
Heifers - £1234.78
Steers - £1269.38

Trade for stirks was up a gear today with plenty of customers for all categories of cattle. The majority of goods on offer were six to nine months old, with plenty of scope going forward, these were very much in demand.
Topping today’s trade was Messrs Hodgson, Swallowmire with a pen of British Blue steers making £1550 a piece. Plenty of other cattle were reaching similar marks with a tremendous run of Luing cross Limousin steers making £1520 from Messrs Atkinson, Crook.
A tremendous run of Angus and Limousins were available throughout, Messrs Beaty, Troutbeck were a solid trade with there run making £1480 for a smart packet of Limousins.
Trade was good, numbers were good, more numbers are required for the next sale on Thursday 16th April 2026.

STORE CATTLE - Spring has teeth.

A real bite in the trade at Junction 36 with grazing types in particular drawing fierce competition resulting in a spring like buzz around the market.
Aberdeen Angus topped at £2320 for a bullock from JE D JER Wightman. Limousin bullocks sold to £2280 from TA&DH Knipe. A pair of Shorthorn bullocks at 15 months from HR&KA Hodgson also sold to £2280. British Blue bullocks topped at £2200 from B&JM Crowe. British Blue heifers from C Wilson hit £2000 for a trio. Angus, Limousin and Hereford heifers all selling to the £1980 mark from JE D JER Wightman, HR&KA Hodgson and RG Robinson respectively.

Bull calves to £1000 for a Charolais from F & TE Park, Kendal with Blues to £970 from JS Towers & H Kent, Dolphinholme and £950 for MH & AR Robinson, Holmescales. Limousins to £840 from Langley Park Farms, Millom. Angus cross bulls a very nice trade selling to £820 for 8 week olds from J & M Maudsley & Son, Endmoor, £810 for SW & K Metcalfe, Whittington with JS & IM Wilson, Millom selling 6 week olds at the same price. 30 day olds to £770 for Charolais from MH & AR Robinson, Holmescales with 3 week old Blues to £660 twice, from Dolphenby Farming, Penrith and £650 for J-CH-JG Bland, Arnside. Dairy bulls to £590 for Montbelliarde from JS & IM Wilson, Millom and £470 for Black & Whites from Langley Park Farms, Millom or £350 for Dairy Shorthorns from Messrs Robinson, Strickley.

Heifer calves possibly the trade of the day selling to £1050, £1010 & £1000 for British Blues from Bambers Farm Ltd, Thurnham who sold a further 6 over £900. JS Towers & H Kent sold the best of their pen to £920 with TK Robinson & Son, Old Hutton selling the best of theirs to £900. Charolais to £830 from SW & K Metcalfe, Whittington with Limousin to £810 from Langley Park Farms, Millom. Angus heifers sold nicely topping at £630 from SW & K Metcalfe, Whittington whilst Herefords from TK Robinson & Son, Old Hutton reached £570. The youngest end sold to £620 for 30 day olds from J-CH-JG Bland, Arnside with Dolphenby Farming reaching £590 at the same age.
