The Yard Foreman’s role is a full time position with a maximum of 48 hours per week. You will be directly responsible to the Livestock Board. Working hours are flexible depending on seasonal mart use. Weekend and evening working will be required especially during the Autumn Sales period. Time off in lieu will be allowed by arrangement with the Board. This will be reviewed after the first six months of employment.
A competitive salary is offered (commensurate with experience) and will be paid monthly in arrears on 28th day of each month.
Annual Holidays: 20 days plus statutory public and bank holidays. A day off in lieu is offered for all bank holidays worked in line with standard company policy
Mileage for private vehicle use on company business is paid at the rate of 45p per mile (for the first 10,000 miles, thereafter 25p)

SALE DAY DUTIES
You will have responsibility in organising yard staff on all sale days. This will include: -• Implementing safe working systems to maintain the highest levels of Health and Safety for all staff in the yard and customers present• Preparing the market for sales on any given day• Organising and instructing yard staff of their duties, maintaining appropriate staffing levels at all points of the day to keep in line with agreed staffing budgets• Organising the team to provide high levels of customer service, efficient and safe unloading and unloading• Overseeing the efficient movement of stock around the market to the sales rings and back to buyers pens to ensure the flow of the auction sale is to the auctioneers requirements• Assist buyers to locate and load livestock following the sale, ensuring at all times correct counts of livestock prior to loading.• You will establish a rapport with customers old and new and ensure all customers’ expectations are met in terms of customer service• You will establish excellent relationship with key buyers and hauliers and the local Trading Standards department and Animal Health Office officials• You will ensure all livestock enters or leaves the market in line with timescales set for each sale licence• You will be designated the role of Bio-security Officer for our Licence and work alongside the designated Animal Welfare Officer
CLEANSING AND DISINFECTION:
• The market will be washed down, cleansed and disinfected after every animal gathering in accordance with AHO requirements. You will be directly responsible for ensuring that this takes place.• The wash-down water will be re-cycled through a bespoke water treatment system. You will have daily maintenance duties to perform to ensure the system is 100% operational. Full training will be given for this very important role to keep any trade discharge within agreed licencing limits.• You will also be expected (with others) to operate machinery used for clean-down and maintenance work. There is a water borehole on site to keep the water storage tank filled, you will be required to operate this as and when needed. Full training will be given.• You will oversee the composting of the sawdust waste on site and also arrange the disposal of waste products.
The company will maintain the market to the highest standards of cleanliness and maintenance. The Yard Foreman will be expected to take great pride in the market and the wider property curtilage keeping it clean, litter-free and car park areas swept and machinery stored safely and securely at all times.
• We hold regular machinery auctions and you will be involved with taking in items for sale and displaying these in accordance with the auctioneer’s instructions. Use of a telehandler is vital to this role and you will be trained and certified in the use of the machinery.• You will be expected to do whatever is required to maintain the smooth running of the market. Other general duties may include helping auctioneers to catalogue stock, organise special sales, constructing temporary pens and so on. You will also be expected to perform general whole-site maintenance tasks as they arise.
You will be an important figure within the market team and is expected to lead by example when dealing with customers to ensure that all customers leave the market satisfied.
The role is available immediately to allow as much training as possible to be given prior to the current Yard Foreman leaving the role in mid-September.
