Big entry again today at J36, a sale mainly consisting of aged mule ewes came to a decent trade with the emphasis still being made on buyers wanting smart lambs with plenty of age on them.
The best single lambs on strong ewes were definitely the most sought after with the best on show making the £150 per life mark. Topping this category was a smart pen of Texel ewes with Texel lambs making £302 from JM & NJ Strickland.

The strongest twins were a solid trade without hitting the major heights of the previous weeks. Topping today with a pen of Cheviot Mule ewes with Texel Lambs came from Richard Gardner, Kendal College making £368, the same firm also had a close run with other pens getting close to this price.

Springers leave Ben with a beamer as his champion lamb flew to 731.7p/kg.

The first spring lambs of the season were a phenomenal trade for all types forward. The champion lamb from FE&CM Robinson sold for £300 weighing 41kg. Charollais lambs from RJ&J Towers also sold to the £300 mark, with that good home averaging 649.25p/kg for their good run of lambs forward.
A lot less hoggs about today and an extremely mixy show forward ranging from 26kg to 67kg and everything in between. However, trade continues to hold up extremely well, especially for the better end. Texels topped at £214 twice for half a dozen from M&YS Barker and M&S Blease. A run of 13 Texels from KA Purtill saw his usual quality top at 448.8p/kg. The same good home had further hoggs at 447.6p/kg just a touch lighter. AT Burrow & Son sold 46kg hoggs to 441.3p/kg. 47kg hoggs from FI&ME Little topped at 429.8p/kg. Mules from K Milburn topped at 427p/kg. Good heavies also holding up nicely with 54kg Texels from M&YS Barker selling for 405.6p/kg.

A tail end show reflects the drop in trade from last week with an overall average of 386.05p/kg and an SQQ of 340p/kg for hoggs from top to bottom. No superstars in the cull ewes today but what a trade witnessed for all sold. Texel x to £258 from A Pickthall. New Hutton with numerous other heavy or quality ewes over £220. Mules over £200 multiple times, topping at £208 for 3 Rough Fell Mules from RJ & OB Simpson, Longsleddale. Best end £190+ with next grade down £160-£180. Horned and hill ewes a remarkable trade, selling to £178 for Rough Fells from T Ellis, New Hutton with Swaledales to £164 from WI & AM Atkinson, Bleasdale and Herdwicks to £138 from A Hartley Ltd, Broughton in Furness.
