Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 3rd April 2026.

STORE CATTLE

A packed ringside and seating area of keen and eager buyers saw a fast and efficient sale on bank holiday Friday. All steers forward averaged £2165 and heifers to £2020, cattle forward today not only for finishing but mainly for summer grazing. More cattle required next week, enter with confidence.

Steers sold to £2580 for Aberdeen Angus from T Robson & Son with others £2500 from Tom Barron Farms and H Halhead & Son. Stronger steers regularly £2250-£2400 with grazing types £1950-£2150. Dairy steers to £2150.

Heifers peaked at £2300 for Aberdeen Angus and Simmental from P & S Alpe who sold others at £2280. Stronger end heifers £2080-£2250 with longer keep feeding/grazing types £1850-£2000.

CULL COWS / OTM CATTLE

Huge interest in cull cows with all forward today selling to a market average of 282p/kg. Best meated beef cows sold to 349.5p/kg for a Stabiliser from JA&R Geldard & Sons, who sold others at £2446.50. Dairy cows sold to 289.5p/kg for Holstein Friesians from D Fox & Co, meated cows generally 250p/kg – 280p/kg and parlour sorts 220p/kg to 240p/kg. Top grossing this week achieved £2363 for a Holstein Friesians from Wallbank Farms Ltd.
OTM heifers sold to 354.5p/kg and £1992 for Stabilisers and 319.5p/kg and £1932 for Holstein Friesians.
OTM steers sold to 354.5p/kg and £2729 for Aberdeen Angus cross from A&E Clarkson Ltd with others generally 330p/kg – 350p/kg.

CALVES

Todays sale featured the Easter Prize Show which was kindly judged by young farmer Jason Alpe, Clitheroe. The championship rosette was awarded to a British Bull bull from Drinkall Bros which later sold for a market topping prize of £1100 with the reserve champion being a British Blue x from JS Towers & H Kent which achieved a final bid of £1000. Throughout the sale stronger rearing bull calves sold away at £740-£960 with younger month old £580-£700. Dairy bulls saw the strongest to £510 from Raby Farms with younger rearers £220-£260. Heifer calves sold to £890 for the first prize British Blue x from GP Stott with an entry of predominately younger heifer calves £620-£840. The sale concluded with weaned calves which saw Simmental cross steers sell to £1340 from Low Moor Howe Farm Ltd and six month old British Blue cross £1290 from Throstle Nest Farms who sold Aberdeen Angus cross at £1270. Weaned bulls sold to £1300 for seven month old British Blue cross from Drinkall Bros and heifers to £1090 for British Blue from DC Miller.
