J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Cattle, Calves, Stirks & OTM Cattle, Thursday 13th November 2025.

STIRKS

Double the number of stirks forward than entered- please enter your stirks to assist with canvassing buyers and to achieve maximum returns for you.
Steers sold to a top price of £1680 for well reared Montbeliarde yearlings from S Ashcroft with younger beef x dairy steers to £1200 for Aberdeen Angus x and others £1100-£1180 for 8–10-month-old. 10-month-old dairy steers sold to £1040.
Several consignments of suckler bred steers were very well received by buyers with the best of the 5–6-month-old Limousin x steers from B Heyes achieving £1580 with others £1400. Other suckler bred steers to £1580 for 6-month-old Limousin x from JH Barker & Son. Other continentals generally £1220-£1450 and natives to £1320 for Aberdeen Angus x from Millfield Stud, others £1120-£1250.
Heifers topped at £1500 for 8-month-old Limousin x from JH Barker & Son with others £1340 and £1260 for 6-month-old from B Heyes. Other suckler bred heifers 6–8-month-old generally £1100-£1250 to include several weaned consignments. Dairy bred heifers sold to £1040 for 7-month-old British Blue x from F & TE Park with Limousin x to £1040 and £1030 from BR Butterfield & Son. Younger native sired heifers £860-£950.
Just a handful of bulls selling to £1230 with other younger 4–5-month-old suckler bred sorts £950-£1100.

CULL COWS / OTM CATTLE

The largest entry for several sales with new customers, in attendance and keen to return at future sales.
Beef cows topped at 359.5p/kg for a Stabiliser cross from MW&MR Black who also sold Limousin cross at 349.5p/kg. Other heavy / well fleshed beef cows were 285p/kg to 320p/kg, with feeding types 250p/kg to 275p/kg. Top grossing today was a Limousin from R Capstick & Son at £2667. Closely followed by others at £2656 and £2632, with others £1850 to £2200.
Dairy cows topped at 274.5p/kg for a Fleckvieh from WH Kitchen & Son with Black and Whites to 259.5p/kg from PW&D Swindlehurst and RH&RA Fawcett. Others were generally 240p/kg to 250p/kg, mediums parlour types 225p/kg to 240p/kg. Top grossing today was £2165.
OTM beef heifers sold to 354.5p/kg and £2425 for Aberdeen Angus cross and 259.5p/kg and £1691 for a Holstein Friesian.
Several stock bulls forward today selling to 319.5p/kg and £2950.

CALVES

118 calves forward as J36 continues to attract more numbers. Bull calves from Messrs Sowerby, Appleby lead the way selling to £1010 for a BB and £990 for a Charolais with Bambers Farm close behind selling BB’s to £940, £930, £910 and £900 x3. Fleckvieh reached £740 again from Messrs Sowerby, Appleby. Month old calves sold to £660 for Charolais from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall with BB to £640 from DR & C Galbraith, Grayrigg & HJ Robinson, Elm Tree. AA bulls sold to £550 from JH Towers & Son, Tunstall at 5 weeks old. Simental sold to £500 at 3 weeks old from first time vendor JJ & JD Graves, Armathwaite, B&W sold to £400 from RF & CE Hodgson, Ulverston. Heifer calves sold to £830 for BB from Bamber Farms, Thurnham with younger end selling to £650 from A Pickthall, New Hutton. Charolais to £550 at 30 days old from JH Towers with AA to £470 from RF & CE Hodgson, Ulverston. STORE CATTLE

The ring was alive, the crowd in full swing,
Buyers aplenty made the market ring sing.
Limousin steers led the lively parade,
Holmes hit £2520 – a cracking trade!

Ellwood just behind, but not by much,
At £2510, a quality touch.
Bids flew fast, there was buzz and cheer,
And even the auctioneer danced in gear.

The trade was strong, the mood was bright,
