Numbers slightly easier this fortnight, however a nice trade for what was forward.
The sale topped at £910 for a very sweet British Blue bull from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth at eight weeks old. Other bulls sold to £890 for a Charolais from Gibson & Berry, Endmoor at the same age. Other bull calves past £800 from JR Waller, Killington, SW&K Metcalfe, Whittington and HJ Robinson, Preston Patrick. One month old bulls sold to £790 from A Pickthall, New Hutton with Beef Shorthorn bulls to £770 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth. Black and white bulls sold to £400 from Gibson & Berry Endmoor.
Heifer calves sold to £790 for British Blues from W Stamper, Chipping with other British Blues to £770 from B&JM Crowe, Witherslack. SW&K Metcalfe, Whttington sold Charolais to £760 with this home topping the Aberdeen Angus trade at £680. One month old heifers sold to £670 from A Pickthall, New Hutton for British Blues.

STIRKS

A varied entry of stirks for sale this week with an abundance of customers in attendance, all keen to secure stock to take advantage of the recent flurry of grass. Dairy bred steers sold to £1310 for BRBx (11m) from JR Robinson & Son with a run of AAx from L & S Thompson selling AAx at £1280 & £1260, younger steers to £1020 for AAx from MW & PA Rollason. Dairy steers sold to £1130 for B&W (11m) from JR Robinson & Son. Younger dairy breed beef steers (5-6m) generally £780 - £880. Heifers peaked at £1160 for 5m Char x from SA & RJ Cleasby with others £1120 for AAx & BSHx from L Thompson & BRBx JR Robinson & Son. Younger native sired heifers to £900 for AAx & HFDx from RW Bainbridge & Son with others generally £780-£850. Just a handful of bull stirks forward selling to £1420 for 9m Lim x JA & KJ Allen with younger dairy bred bulls to £780 from Messrs Williamson. All stirks must be pre-entered for the catalogue with entries for the next sale required by 12noon Wednesday 2nd July.

OTM / CAST CATTLE

A nice show of OTM’s forward today at Junction 36, with trade continuing to please vendors.
Top pence per kilo was 369.5p for a six year old Blonde cross cow from PF&ES Rogerson, Appleby with a Limousin cross from this home next at 359.5p/kg. Other sucklers sold to 309.5p/kg for an Aberdeen Angus cross from BJ Bowness, Kendal with Fleckvieh to the same price from RG&JA Clark, Endmoor. The best of the black and white sold to 294.5p/kg for an OTM heifer from JM Barton, Lupton with cows topping at 264.5p/kg from RG&JA Clark, Endmoor. Parlour type cows sold to 239.5p/kg from Gibson & Berry, Endmoor with others to 234.5p/kg x2 from PW&D Swindlehurst, Underbarrow and Strickland Hill Farming, Witherslack.

Top grossing was £2793.32, achieved for a Limousin from PJ&ES Rogerson, Appleby with Simmental from this home next at £2599.80. Others sold to £2333.63 for an Aberdeen Angus from BJ Bowness, Kendal with a cast bull from B&MJ Nelson, Milnthorpe achieving £2310.21. Dairy cows sold to £1901.76 from RG&JA Clark, Endmoor and £1747.03 from Strickland Hill Farming, Witherslack.

STORE CATTLE

What the wind brought in: a stirring day for store cattle.
Expectation blown out the window once again at Junction 36, with a thunderous trade from the offset. Lightning fast bidding caused a perfect storm resulting in all classes up again from the last sale.
A Simmental heifer from RD Brailford, Yealand Redmayne sold to £2300. A pair of Charolais heifers from JM Haddow, Hincaster reached £2200, while a further Simmental heifer again from Messrs Brailford, Yealand Redmayne sold to £2160. JM Haddow, Hincaster also sold a run of Charolais bullocks topping at £2100 for a smashing pair. Another Charolais bullock this time from JC Walling & Son, Kendal. A pair of Hereford heifers sold to £2020 from GM Redmayne, Ings. WA Atkinson, Colton also sold a cracking run of cattle topping yet again with a Charolais bullock at £1910 at just twelve months old.
