PIGS
A quality offering of prime pigs forward in Junction 36 this morning, selling to £252 for a fine pair of gilts from J&JR Stott, Stainton with a trio of well finished hogs from PK&R Woof, Stainton close behind at £238. Top pence per kilo was 281p for a hog again from the Woof’s weighing 80kg, he grossed £225. Boars sold to £158 from W Stamper, Chipping and sows to £138 from JW&M Buckle, Barras.
CAST EWES
Ewe numbers remain tight letting supply and demand drive the trade. Best pure bred continental ewes continue to achieve premium prices with well fleshed commercial ewes looking well sold. Hill ewes saw the better fleshed types keenly sough after.
