Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 31st July 2026.

CALVES

72 Calves

A flying trade for calves again at Lancaster with a strong entry and an even stronger trade.

Buyers were in abundance for younger calves with a big demand for young Blues, which accounted for a large portion of the calves available.

Topping this category was a smashing Bull calf making £860 from RE & P Miller, Barnacre. Many Blues pushed above the high £600s with ease. Angus were also good to sell, with a large entry and a top price of £810 from Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyersdale.

Special mention goes to D & M Foster, with a tremendous young Limousin Heifer calf that went on to make £900.

Larger weaned calves were a straight trade also with trade for these being topped out at £1300 for some quality Simmental Steers from S Rossall, Over Wyersdale. AT Burrow & Son, High Snab had their usual consignment averaging £1100 a head.

Demand for calves remains high. More calves needed.

OTM/CAST CATTLE

Lancaster weekly otm sale consisting of 45 otm cows, 16 otm heifers, 6 cast steers and 1 cast bull. Trade very similar on the week with a leaner show of cows.

Cast steers getting away nicely with Fleckvieh steers to £2456 from R Packham & Sons, Docker with Aberdeen Angus steers from RH Dodgson, Carnforth to 334.5ppk with Limousins from EJ Ward & Sons, Carnforth at the same price. All steers today averaged 261ppk. Otm heifers saw Herefords heifers to £2433.75 from H Halhead & Son, Nether Kellet who also had British Blue otm heifers to 344ppk and Aberdeen Angus heifers to £2313.09 or 329ppk. Friesian otm heifers topped at £2102.49 or 299.5ppk from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. All heifers today averaged 298ppk. Otm cows saw more beef bred cattle about with MA & JA Winn, Burneside with a Limousin cow at £2300 or 319ppk. Other Limousin cows at 304.5ppk from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet. British Blue otm cows to £2046.78 from R & J Parkinson, Preesall. Friesian cows from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton with Oxcliffe to 309.5ppk. Other Friesian cows from SH & M Batty & Sons, Quernmore to £2615. Other meated Friesian cows round the £1700-£1800 mark. All otm cows today average 236ppk.
