CALVES

A small but quality show of calves at Lancaster today.
Rearing calves a very nice trade, selling to £860 for a British Blue bull from J & G Thornley, Kirkham with JP & C Robson, Brock close behind at £840. One month old Hereford bulls sold to £700 from WN & D Smith, Cockerham.
Heifer calves equally as hot, selling to £790 for British Blues from Wallbank Farms, with other British Blues to £770 from JP&C Robson, Brock. Aberdeen Angus heifers a very nice trade selling to £680 from J & G Thornley, Kirkham, £640 from Wallbank Farms and £560 for WN & D Smith, Cockerham.
Stirks a flyer, with trade certainly up a gear, selling to £1390 for Aberdeen Angus bullocks from J&M Coar & Son, Waddington who sold Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1230. RE & P Miller, Garstang sold a very nice run of heifers to £1180 and £1110 with AT Burrow & Son selling theirs to £1080 at eight month old.

OTM/CAST CATTLE

Lancasters auction weekly otm sale saw numbers well short of buyer’s requirements as vendors take advantage of the good weather with an overall of 270ppk being achieved all in.

Topping the trade in the bottom ring today was Miss EK Clegg, Pilling with an Aberdeen Angus steer at £2568.78 or 319.5ppk. Other cast steers also at 319.5ppk this time for British Blues from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton who had other British Blues at £2491.13 or 314.5ppk, Friesian cast steers from this same good home at £2232.05 or 289.5ppk. OTM heifers saw Friesian to £2201 or 299.5ppk from J & G Thornley, Preston. Aberdeen Angus otm heifers from O Butler, Preston to £1959.34 or 294.5ppk. Plainer sort otm heifers round the 260-280ppk.
OTM cows saw big fleshy Friesian cows from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale to £2086.90 with Fleckvieh to £1925.76 or 229.5ppk from B & AC Barnes, Carnforth. British Blues to £1920.38 or 284.5ppk. Simmental cows to 294.5ppk and Aberdeen Angus otm cows to 284.5ppk.

More cattle required for next week to satisfy buyer’s demand.

STORE CATTLE

Lancaster auctions weekly store cattle sale saw a few less than previous weeks with trade slightly sharper on the week as talk of deadweight price increase.

Steers today averaged £1972 with heifers averaging £1945. Aberdeen Angus steers to £2380 from EW & CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine with others from T Robson & Son, Singleton to £2300. K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel with their usually run of quality cattle had British Blues to £2200 and £2250. Limousin steers to £2200 from RG & LR Holmes, Kendal. Charolais steers to £2200 from J & H Bland & Son, Levens. Hereford steers at the same price this time from J & S Winstanley, Preston. Store heifers saw plenty of interest from the buyers with British Blues from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel to £2250 with other British Blues from GR & A Foy, Conder Green to £2220. Aberdeen Angus to £2200 from K & DE Woodhouse, Ellel. Hereford heifers to £2180 from J & S Winstanley, Preston with Charolais heifers to £2120 from J & H Bland & Son, Levens.
