Lancasters weekly sale otm/cast cattle saw numbers over the 100 mark with the live ring at Lancaster again bucking the trend, with falling deadweight quotations.
Top grossing beast today would be the Simmental cast bull at £2797.80 from Fell View Farms with other cast bulls at £2434 for an Aberdeen Angus from RG & B Lewis, Carnforth.
Top grossing otm cow from PW & JM Norris & Son at £2350 for Friesian with other Friesians from the same good home at £2126.36. Limousin otm cows to £2085.14 from JT & GV Dobson, Grindleton. Aberdeen Angus otm cows to £2078.57 from JH Woof & Son, Kendal. MJ Whitworth, Bolton le Sands top price per kilo at 344.5ppk for a Blonde cow. Other beef bred otm cows to 314.5ppk from JT & GV Dobson, Clitheroe. Friesian cows to 269.5ppk from RG & B Lewis, Carnforth.
Good entry of otm steers today, top grossing from O Butler, Esprick at £2394.08 and others from the same good home at £2289.23 both Aberdeen Angus. British Blue cast steers to 354.5ppk from Wallbank Farms Ltd, Over Wyresdale.
OTM heifers saw Herefords to £2212.93 and £2204.05 from DH & M Kellet & Sons, Cockerham. With O Butler, Esprick continuing their good days trading at 349.5ppk this time for an Aberdeen Angus. Dairy bred otm heifers to £2107.14 for Friesians from EW & RM Towers, Hornby. Other Friesians otm heifers to 304ppk from JT & B Fox, Quernmore.

STORE CATTLE

Lancasters weekly store cattle sale of 234 saw yet again a sharper trade for the younger grazing types of cattle with the bigger older meaty cattle seeing a slight resistance as beef finishers experiencing waiting lists at abattoir.
JM Maudsley & Sons, Endmoor taking the top spot today with his run of 18 Aberdeen Angus steers topping at £2380. Other Aberdeen Angus steers to £2320 from Tom Barron Farms, Woodplumpton. Simmental steers to £2250 from E Rossal, Preesall. Limousin steers to £2280 from JG & BJ Escolme, Killington. British Blue to £2220 from regular supporter SH & LE Birkett, Carnforth. Dairy bred steers to £1950 and £1900 for Friesians from R & E Ladds, Scalthwaiterigg. Younger grazing types of steers easily sold today, regularly round the £1850-£1950 mark for 16–18-month-old.
P Whitton & Son, Kendal today taking the top spot today with store heifers at £2080 for Aberdeen Angus heifers with the same good home selling Limousin heifers at the same price. Aberdeen Angus heifers from Tom Barron Farms, Woodplumpton at £2050 with British Blue heifers at the same price from A & T Smith, Preston. Simmental heifers to £2000 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale with Herefords at the same price from A & FM Bolland & Sons, Ellel. Turning out heifers looking well sold with pen after pen round the £1750-£1850 mark for 16–18-month-old.

CALVES

Lancasters weekly sale of calves saw a few more about as words spreads of the stronger trade we have been having week in week out here at Lancaster.
Young calves in high demand from JP & C Robon, Catterall seeing his 6-week-old British Blues bulls to £780 and his British Blue heifers to £690. Aberdeen Angus heifers at 8-week-old from I Slater, to £600.
Shorthorn bulls to £670 from JE & SM Seedall, Blackburn. Friesian to £320 from Brades Earthwise Solutions. Weaned calves attracting plenty of interest with H Kent weekly consignment topping at £850 for British bulls and £820 for Aberdeen Angus bulls with Friesian bulls from JR Newsham & Son at £660 x4.
6 pens of stirks which were mainly heifers saw Aberdeen Angus heifers top at £1100 from J Capstick, Sedbergh. Other Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1040 from Throstle Nest Farms, Pilling. British Blues from the same home at £940. Hereford heifer stirks at the same price from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale with his Hereford bulls to £850.
