Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Calves, OTM Cattle & Store Cattle, Friday 25th July 2025.

CALVES 
Trade a bit sharper for calves this week, with bull calves selling to £940 for a British Blue from J&G Thornley, Kirkham. Charolais from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale were next at £880. An eight week old British Blue from T&CM Kelsall, Chipping sold to £810, whilst Aberdeen Angus topped at £800 from AW&AM Park, Ellel who sold others at £790. Black and Whites sold to £340 from WN&D Smith, Cockerham at six weeks old.
Heifer calves sold to £730 for British Blues from AW&AM Park who sold Aberdeen Angus to £690. Younger sorts sold to £640 for British Blues from Wallbank Farms and £600 from JF&JC Hewitt, Nateby. Hereford sold to £510 from MJ&H Atkinson, Quernmore.

STORE CATTLE 
The weekly sale of store cattle at Lancaster once again saw the trade for strong stores sharper on the week, as buyers from Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Cumbria were all eager for cattle.
Aberdeen Angus cattle yet again hitting top spot with regular Lancaster vendors L Parson & Sons, Leven to £2550 for his steers, who also sold other at £2420. KH&D Holden, Pilling saw their Herefords steers to £2520. Local Lancaster support J Lamb, Old Glasson saw their pen of five well farmed British Blue steer achieve £2480, with other British Blue steers from DJ Townley, Lancaster to £2400 for a trio.
Store heifers saw a good show of quality beasts, with Helm & Proctor, Preston taking the top spot with a quality British Blue heifer to £2500. Also hitting the £2500 barrier was KH&D Holden & Son, Pilling with his Aberdeen Angus heifers. Charolais heifers sold to £2350 at only 20 months old from DJ Townley, Lancaster.
More cattle are required for next weeks sale to keep the buyers coming, entries please to the office or Andrew by 5pm Monday for the catalogue.

FARMER STIRKS
The monthly sale of stirks at Lancaster saw a disappointing number forward, with a busy ringside of buyers eager to replace the store cattle they have sold.
JE&J Pye & Son, Quernmore saw his quality consignment of well grown stirks sell to a top of £1350 for British Blue steers. While their consignment of Aberdeen Angus heifers sold to £1200, with other Angus heifers at £1200 from G&D Ball & Son, Great Eccleston who also sold his Aberdeen Angus steers to £1350. The next stirk sale is on Friday 29th August.

OTM / CAST CATTLE 
The weekly sale of OTM cattle saw a reduced number forward, with many farmers taking advantage of the good weather to get crops in. Trade again seeing a rise on the week, with additional buyers round the ring. An overall average of 292.5p/kg was achieved, to include some very lean cows.
Best meated beef bred cow saw a top price of £2609 from CM&CA Jackson, Lancaster. Other beef bred cows saw JC Prickett, Mewith sell to 369.5p/kg for his Angus cows. Hereford cows from Carr Bridge Farm, Hambleton achieved £2336. Charolais cows again from the Fylde coast sold to £2201 from H Morgan, Stalmine. Dairy bred cows saw Friesians to 314.5p/kg from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale, with other Friesian cows to 304.5p/kg or £1912 from Barker Farm, Carnforth.
Cast steers from JD EM JA Atkinson, Kendal sold to £2595 or 384.5p/kg for a British Blue. CM&CA Jackson, Lancaster continued his good days trading with OTM heifer Aberdeen Angus to 379.5p/kg or £2231, with other Aberdeen Angus OTM heifer from D Fox & Co, Lancaster to 364.5p/kg or £2092. Friesian OTM heifer sold to £1925 or 339.5p/kg from WT Whitaker & Sons, Nether Kellet with others from the same home to 284.5p/kg.
