PRIME LAMBS

A very pleasing sale to end what has been a buoyant year at Lancaster Auction on a Monday morning for which we would like to extend our thanks to all customers for their continued support.
A feature of todays sale was the annual young handlers show & sale which this year saw regular auction mart attendee Freddie Swarbrick, Bensons Farm with the championship rosette showing a 44kg Beltex cross lamb which later sold for £188 to Mr N Brown, Littledale. Thanks must go to the judge Mr S Cornthwaite, Caton and todays sponsor Park Farm Mookshake Shack. Well done to all competitors at todays show.

Todays market generated an average of 343p/kg with well finished lambs in keenest demand, as were standard weight lambs. A top price of £192 was achieved for a Beltex cross from J Twigge, Lindale with other better end £165 to £185. Top p/kg today was 449p/kg for another Beltex cross this time from M Beresford, others 355p/kg to 380p/kg. Standard weights to £172 & 427p/kg, others £148 to £158 & 345p/kg to 360p/kg. Heavy weight mules to £170, Mashams £159 and standard weights to £150. Best horned lambs to £165, light weight lambs of all breeds well finished in high demand.

CULL SHEEP

Two full alleys today with trade remaining firm and more needed each week.Strongest cross bred ewes to £198 from JA Lambert and D&E Whitaker with others £175 to £185, lighter weights £155 to £170. Heaviest mules £170 from A&FM Bolland & Sons, others £150 to £168. Hill ewes to £151 for cheviots, £125 for Rough Fell, £118 for Swaledale and £117 for Scotch Black Face.
Several rams forward selling to £248 for Texels, others generally £180 to £225.
