Lancaster Livestock Auction: Christmas Show & Sale of Dairy Cattle, 14th December 2021

STARS SHINE BRIGHT AT LANCASTER CHRISTMAS DAIRY SHOW & SALE

On Tuesday 14th December North West Auctions held its much anticipated Christmas Prize Show & Sale of Dairy cattle which once again saw a high quality catalogued entry of Pedigree cows, heifers and youngstock attract a keen crowd of potential purchasers all looking to secure additional and replacement stock from this popular sale.

The pre sale show was kindly judges by Mr David Wannop, Heaton-with-Oxcliffe who had a superb quality entry of heifers and cows presented before him in the three show classes. After much consideration the show champion was found from the heifer class with the rosette awarded to Sweetings Altamontoya Jewel 2 which was shown by Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham. This heifer was later sold for a final bid of £2850 to the judge. The reserve rosette was won by GJ Mutton & Sons, Barrow-in-Furness showing a heifer Billincoat Ballistic Kay which later sold for £2000 to AD & S Milburn, Millom. All exhibitors must be complimented on the cattle presented for show which once again would be hard to beat anywhere in the country.

The sale saw a top price of £2900 for the much admired Garsby Unix Emily consigned by WG Cornthwaite & Son, Claughton-on-Brock which after a frenzied flurry of bids sold to a local Lancashire Buyer. Another pair of non prize winning heifers to exceed the £2500 barrier included Blackwood Clinker 56 from JT & B Fox, Quernmore achieving £2550 to a Cheshire buyer and Pennine Poppy 1590 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale at £2520 heading east. Keen competition from and active ringside of purchasers sale the stronger end of heifers generally selling at £2200 - £2500 with the next bracket £1900 - £2100 with an over all market average for all heifers sold of £2088.
Just a handful of cows forward selling to £1850 for the first prized cow fresh into her second lactation from Lawsons Farm Ltd, Cockerham heading south towards Preston with another staying local to Lancaster at £1650.
EH & R Eccles, Chorley presented another consignment of heifer calves this month which are attracting an ever increasing audience of prospective purchasers. This month saw a top price of £500 Denhamhill Rooster April Red 2 which has gone to be the foundation of a new family in a noted local herd, other heifer calves sold to £470.

Thank you to all vendors and purchasers for your support not only at this sale but throughout the year. The next sale is on Tuesday 18th January 2022 being the Renowned January Extravaganza for which vendors are encouraged to enter cattle with confidence with strong buyer interest and attendance already being expressed.
