The weekly sale of Store Cattle saw a buoyant trade throughout with a mixed show of cattle forward. Large well-fleshed cattle continue to sell very well at Lancaster with purchasers also now looking for grazing type cattle.
Topping the trade today was a pen of four Charolais Bullocks from TN Nelson & Partners, Lancaster selling to £1450. Native Cattle always good to sell at Lancaster, with a pen of three Aberdeen Angus Bullocks selling to £1390 from WA Cardwell, Stalmine. It is beneficial to vendors to batch cattle into bigger groups to gain full financial benefit. Heifers sold to a top of £1270 for a pen of four Aberdeen Angus from G Sagar & Son, Caton.
Black and White Bullocks sold to a top of £1090 for a pen of three from Cowell & Moore, Woodplumpton.
Over 15% of the cattle forward today sold in excess of £1200. All types of cattle continued to be needed at Lancaster especially with spring approaching.
There was a smaller entry of Cast Cows forward today with 85 in the market, selling to another continuous good trade. There was an overall market average of 124p/kg with more cows required week on week to meet the strong demand of 14 active buyers. This average was achieved with 95% being dairy bred cows.
OTM Heifers sold to a top of 187.5p/kg for a Limousin from T & S Blades, Arkholme.
Young Black and White Cows sold to 164.5p/kg from CJ Birkett, Carnforth. Best Black and White Cows sold to £1202 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. There were numerous best fleshed dairy cows selling over the £1000 mark.
Aberdeen Angus Cast Bulls sold to £1362 from WG & E Hewitt & Sons, Cockerham.
Calves and Stirks
There was a much reduced entry of calves forward this week.
Three week old British Blue Bulls sold to £240 from J Bargh & Son, Heaton with Oxcliffe. Limousin weaned Heifer calves sold to £330 from K Whitaker & Son, Bay Horse.
Dairy bulls topped at £130 for Montbelliardes from JK & B Birkett & Son, Morecambe.
A few stirks on offer this week, saw Aberdeen Angus Heifers sell to £520, £500 and £490 from PJ & M Mason, Out Rawcliffe.
