There was a larger entry of Store Cattle this week with 265 forward selling to a stronger trade than the previous week.
Topping the day’s sale was a pen of Aberdeen Angus bullocks from J Clark, Lea selling to £1500. Limousin bullock sold to £1480 from TS & SM Park, Millom. This was closely followed by a Charolais bullock from TN Pye & Partners which sold to £1470.
A British Blue Heifer sold to the top price of £1380 from JS & KM Wilson & Son, Kendal. Native heifers sold to a top of £1280 for Angus’ from J Clark.
Black and white bullocks sold to £1030 for a pen from EE Thornton & Sons, Heaton. Black and white heifers sold to £1220 from JS & KM Wilson.
An entry just short of 100 OTM Cattle this week sold to an improved trade with all cattle forward averaging 129.8p/kg.
Cast Cows sold to a top of 187.5p/kg for a Stabiliser from A Dixon & Son, Selside. British Blue Cows sold to 169.5p/kg from RH & C Ayrton Ltd, Abbeystead. Black and white cows sold to a top of 144.5p/kg from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, with black and white heifers selling to 159.5p/kg from DJ & S Tomlinson of Bilsborrow.
Limousin Cast Steers sold to 209.5p/kg or £1403.65 from PM & ST Entwistle, Abbeystead. Cast bulls sold to 164.5p/kg or £1348.90 from D Fox & Co, Holleth.
Calves and Stirks
A large entry of Calves forward saw British Blue bull calves sell to £360 from AW & AM Park, Ellel, which was closely followed by a Limousin Bull calf selling to £350 from JM & MH France & Son, Littledale. Native Bull calves saw Angus’ sell to £280 from JK & BJ Birkett & Son, Morecambe.
Heifer calves sold to £185, twice, firstly for an Angus from JK & BJ Birkett and secondly for a British Blue from JB & JB Lawson, Cockerham.
Black and white bull calves sold to £125 from Drinkall Bros.
A handful of stirks forward for the sale saw Hereford bullock stirks sell to £620 and Hereford Heifer Stirks sell to £550 from Messrs Kirkham, Preston.
