J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Fortnightly Sale of Store Cattle, OTMS, Stirks & Calves, Thursday 3rd September 2026.

CALVES

Calves continue their fine form at J36, with this week’s top spot claimed by RC Wharton & Son, Appleby selling a 7-week-old British Blue bull calf to £1300. Messrs Ayrton, Bambers Farm sold their usual quality of British Blue bulls to £1000 and £990 with JS Towers & H Kent selling Limousin bulls to £930 and £910. Charolais to £880 from AK & BM Robinson, Arkholme or £850 from Messrs Gibson & Berry, Endmoor. Aberdeen Angus to £780 for 8-week-olds from HJ Robinson & Son, Elm Tree with 30-day old Aberdeen Angus to £610 from Messrs Inman, Strickland Hill. The youngest bulls to £800 for a British Blue born 07/08/26 from A Pickthall, New Hutton with 3-week-old Limousin to £570 from B & MJ Nelson, Milnthorpe. Black and Whites bulls to £440 from AK & BM Robinson, Arkholme with month old Fleckvieh to £420 from Messrs Wilson, Allithwaite.

Heifer calves to £890 for British Blues from Messrs Ayrton, Bambers Farm who sold Simmental x to £860. Limousin to £780 from JS Towers & H Kent or Charolais to £760 from AK & BM Robinson who sold Aberdeen Angus to £710. Younger end sold to £740 for month old Charolais from Tom Dean, Clapham with British Blues to £710 from A Pickthall, New Hutton.

Plenty of stirks to pick from at Kendal with numbers increasing as every sale goes on. One hundred to pick from and quality in abundance, trade was fit to match.
Blue cross cattle dominated the numbers today, with nearly half being these cattle.
Topping the trade today was regular consigner AM Smith Ltd selling pens of Angus steers to £1520. The same firm had a pen of Hereford heifers at £1510. Other notable trade to mention were from Martin and Hannah Pedley with a tremendous selection of British Blue heifers topping out at £1430. Charollais were fit to ignite with a flying trade from Messrs Seymour, Penrith making £1260 x2 and a belting average of £1070. Limousins were in demand with an average of £1100.
