Another strong trade at J36 with a trade fit to stand with the past 2 weeks.
Strong ewes are still in hot demand with lambs with plenty of age on them. This proved to be correct with a very strong packet of sheep comprising of Continental x, Cheviot Mule x, Masham ewes with Charolais/Beltex lambs from Richard Gardiner at Kendal College topping at £500 for a pen of Continental ewes with twins, the same firm followed with pens at £480, £475, £465, £450, £445 and singles at £320. Shearling trade remained hot with strong consignments of Mules and Texel on offer. Texel Shearlings topped the market from R Allinson making £460. Mules came close making £445 from G & KM Atkinson. The strength of lambs certainly made a difference to trade today with buyers wanting the final pull on early spring lambs.

Rough Fells and Swaledales lead the horned ewes at £156 from M & G German, Middleton and D Sharp, Flodder respectively. Numerous other pens £130+.

PRIME HOGGS & SPRING LAMBS

Trade holding firm for Springers & Hoggs

Spring lamb trade continues in its rich vain of form with Dorsets selling to 507.1p/kg from Messrs FE & CM Robinson & Son and Texels selling to £229 from Messrs W Garnett & Son.

Hoggs also maintaining massive demand. Another extremely mixed show forward however no let up in action as new faces ringside emphasised both lack of quantity and quality on show today. Good, well fed hoggs still selling extremely well. Heavies also better to sell today and the lighter end still gaining plenty of attention. Texels topped at £228 for a pen from Messrs R Lawrence. A trio of Texels from Messrs TA Teasdale hit £226 and Continental to £222 from Cornthwaite Moors Ltd. Texel topped pence per kilo at 441.2p/kg from D & J Woof. Fittest of Horned sheep still around the 400p/kg mark. Other Texels sold to 443.5p/kg from Messrs M & S Blease. An overall average of 375p/kg reflected the article forward with many vendors selling for the final time this season. More numbers required next week to meet strong demand!
