J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Boys Are Back In Town Ram Sale & Second Sale of Gimmer Lambs, Wednesday 1st October 2025.

BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

The much anticipated ‘Boys are Back in Town’ evening prize show and sale of Breeding rams once again attracted a packed ringside of local and travelled buyers from as far a field as Scotland and Devon.
The pre-sale show was kindly judged by Mr L Ayrton, Abbeystead who made the following awards:

Any Breed Shearling Ram
1st A Williams, Manor Farm
2nd H Taylor & Partners, Hope House Farm
3rd A Williams, Manor Farm

Any Other Breed Ram Lamb
1st J Harrison, Wickerfield
2nd TA Blair, Thornfleet
3rd Messrs Hewson, Burgh Head Farm

The sale topped at £2200 for the first prize shearling, being a Texel from noted breeder Miss A Williams, Hale who sold others at £1500 and £1450. Other Texel shearlings sold to £1000 from HJ & PA Berry, Clitheroe and M & S Blease, Carnforth. Suffolks shearlings sold to £900 from RA Batty and TA Blair. Charolais shearlings peaked at £800 from S Cummings and J Stott Jnr with Beltex to £750 from S Cummings.
Aged rams sold to £1100 for a Suffolk from Oakden Livestock with Texels to £900 from M & S Blease.
Ram lambs sold to £1000 for Texels from PK & R Woof. Suffolks to £800 from J Harrison and Charolais from £600 from BR Harrison.

Top trade for gimmer lambs today!!
As the season for gimmer lambs draws to a close, the finale hit a high. As late born runners were sought after, and a new set of buyers came out of the woodwork.

They say everything comes in threes and todays show was no exception with Bob Lawrence gaining the champion rosette to complete the trio of Ambleside Fair, NEMSA sale and the new format second sale championship.
Trade started off at a passable pace and accelerated and gained pace as it went on. ‘On fire’ sprung to mind by the end of it. Average finalised at £127.90 for Mules with champion pen topping at £265.
Texel/Beltex lambs were strong throughout with top price being reached by Miss Robyn Allen, St Annes. The same vendor matched this with additional pens at £170 and £165 to complete a good show.
A pen of cheviot mules took reserve champion today from John Woof, Firbank making £175. Cheviot mules were very sought after all-round.
