J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs & Cast Sheep, Tuesday 19th August 2025

PRIME LAMBS

The prime lamb market remains overall solid, with well finished and well foraged lambs continuing to attract strong buyers’ interest. These quality types are making for a two-tier trade, outperforming the plainer under done sorts. Heavy lambs also continue to add up well, maintaining good value across the board. While the weekly average is back, the market remains ahead of the same period last year, reflecting ongoing confidence in the trade and strong seasonal demand. Todays overall average finished up at 320p/kg for a lot more numbers forward. L McCarrick, Chorley sold a single good Texel lamb today to 373p/kg, with the same home selling a pair of Texels at 44kg to 345.5p/kg. Eight 48kg Texels from JA Airey, Kendal hit 343.8p/kg. While a pen of three heavier Texels from DE&SM Moorhouse, Natland hit 343.4p/kg. Get in touch with any enquiries ahead of next weeks sale here at Junction 36.

CAST SHEEP

610 ewes forward would sell to a slightly easier trade on the week. A shortage of big fleshy ewes forward ensured these types were keenly bid for, with an abundance of leaner hill ewes seeing this drop a little in value.
