NWA J36 had an entry of 386 cattle forward at their fortnightly sale which saw all classes and types achieve their full value. There was an entry of 96 Calves forward at J36, with all Calves still meeting plenty of demand. The market topped at £460 for a wonderful Simmental Bull from AK&BM Robinson & Son, Arkholme. J Hornby & Son, Stank had a run of Blue bulls peaking at £425, with others selling to £400 from JG&BJ Escolme, Killington. GCL Stephenson, Kirkby Lonsdale showed a good run of Limousin Bulls which peaked at £350, with others selling to £320. Plenty of Beef bull calves easily selling in excess of the £300 mark. British Blue heifer calves sold to £395 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth with other Blue heifers selling to £300 from JR Robinson & Son, Nook. Limousin Heifers sold to £280 from WH Kitching & Sons, Hale. Heifer calves were selling between £220-£350 mark.
A smaller show of Black & Whites forward with the best to £120 from CM&CS Chappelhow, Clifton Dykes. Medium types selling between £60-£75 with a top of £90 from RF&CE Hodgson, Pennington
There was an increased entry of 78 Stirks. All stirks were well bid for with all vendors leaving pleased. Angus bullocks were leading the way with a top of £795 from WR Clarke & Partners, Yealand Redmayne with other Angus bullocks to £690 from R Lawson & Son, Burton in Kendal. British Blue bullocks peaked at £620 from Kirkby & Longworth, Dunnerdale with others to £610 from P Eastham, Broughton Mills. Flekvieh bullocks to £550 from P Eastham, with Dairy Shorthorn bullocks to £380 from M Kitching & S Smith. All heifers keenly bid for with British Blue heifers to £580 from SM&CM Bewley, Dent. Kirkby & Longworth topping the Limousin section at £570.
Cast Cows & OTM Cattle
A strong entry of Cull Cows was forward with a top price of 124p/kg achieved for a Holstein Friesian from WH Kitching & Son, Sedgwick with other heavy well fleshed cows generally achieving 115-122p/kg, with a plainer show of cows generally selling 95-108p/kg. Top grossing was from the same home achieving £957.
OTM heifers sold to 119.5p/kg for a British Friesian from CM&CS Chappelhow, Penrith. Top grossing heifer being £654 achieved BW&G Robinson, Ingleton selling a Holstein Friesian.
Several OTM steers forward today selling to 184p/kg and £1105 for British Blue x from JW Robinson & Son, Farleton who also sold Angus x at 179p/kg or £922.
Vendors are encouraged to bring Cull Cows forward as early as possible to ensure a prompt sale time start of 10.03am, market gates are open at 7am to receive stock.
Beef Breeding Cattle
The sale of Beef Breeding Cattle saw £1,350 achieved for a Limousin x Heifer with British Blue x Bull Calf from RC Billington & Son, Garstang. A 2nd Calved British Blue x Cow with Limousin Bull Calf from JG&RM Hall, Keld achieved £1,200. A Welsh Black Heifer with Angus x Heifer Calf from KE Robinson & Son, Farleton sold at £1,100. In-Calf Heifers sold to £980 for Limousin x due December from D Penellum, Kirkby in Furness. British Blue x Bulling Heifers from RW Nicholson, Lupton sold to £950.
Steers sold to £1,250 for a Limousin x from E&S Bower, Ulverston who sold others at £1020. Other strong steers sold to £980 for Angus x from J Walling & Son, Windermere. Simmental x steers from T Sharp, Kendal sold to £900. Nice steers for wintering sold to £865 for Simmental x from JJ Hope, Wigton with Angus x £815 from GM Strong, Penrith and £805 JE Wightman, Lupton. Younger steers sold to £795 from PW&D Swindlehurst, Underbarrow.
Store heifers sold to £910 for Simmental x from Caley & Mitchinson, Troutbeck with Angus x to £890 from S&M Carter, WItherslack. Limousin x sold to £875 from E&S Bower, Ulverston with Hereford to £820 from S&M Carter.
Younger heifers sold to £770 for Simmental x from JJ Hope, Wigton with others £720-£750.
