PRIME LAMBS
A similar entry of lambs was forward on the week this morning, with an improved trade throughout. Lambs ranged from 26kg to 58kg, averaging an impressive 353p/kg.
Well-finished fed lambs were keenly sought after, with D&K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe, leading the market with a Beltex lamb at £220, with another Beltex reaching £218 from CD & HM Mason, Caton. Texels sold to £208 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof, while Hill bred lambs saw Cheviots reached £188 from SE&J Gorst, Littledale. Mules topped at £158 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton.
A smart butcher’s lamb from KA Purtill, Wigan, topped the pence per kilo achieving 481p/kg, with numerous well-fed lambs comfortably exceeding the £4/kg mark.

A strong demand was evident for both feeding and prime ewes, with further numbers required each week at Lancaster. Continental ewes topped at £192 from P Metcalfe, Quernmore, with Texels reaching £185 from DJ Clarke Farming, Barnacre, and others to £180 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. Mules topped at £168 from DJ Clarke Farming, Bleasdale, with medium meated Mules regularly achieving £130–£140.
