There was a smaller entry this week of 80 Spring Lambs selling to a sharper trade with plenty of demand ringside and some buyers leaving short of requirements. Topping the market today at 308p/kg or £123 was Beltex lambs from W Bradley, Goosnargh. This was followed by the consignment of Continental and Beltex lambs from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth selling to £112 and £108 three times or 284p/kg, 280p/kg and 277p/kg. Suffolks sold to a top of £109 and £107 form G Riley, Bolton-le-Sands. Pure and three quarter bred lambs sold to a market average of 268p/kg this week. There was an overall market average of 238p/kg, with 32kg to 39kg lambs averaging 264p/kg.
There was a smaller entry of Prime Hoggs today selling to a very similar trade. The market twice topped at £94 with Texels from AG Butler, Hambleton and Texels from J Smith, Daisy Bank. Suffolk sold to a top of £91 from A & J Rhodes, Ellel. Mules twice topped at £88 from A & J Rhodes and from A Thistlethwaite, Quernmore. There was an overall market average of 180p/kg with an SQQ of 192p/kg.
There was a few last cast sheep on the market today saw the trade top at £104 for Texel cast ewes from CM & CA Jackson, Caton. Continental ewes topped at £89 and £86, twice from R & B Parker, Killington with Suffolk ewes selling to £86 from T Smith, Pilling. Mule ewes sold to £74 from PW & DW Roskell, Pilling with others to £71 from J Burr, Quernmore. Horned sheep sold to £68 twice from W Pinder Jnr, Newton-in-Bowland with others to £67 from the same home. Herdwicks sold to £55 from T & ME Longton & Son, Quernmore. Cast sheep sold to an overall market average of £73.
Sheep with Lambs at Foot
The weekly sale of Sheep with lambs had a smaller entry but saw a lot of interest ringside. Topping the market today at £220 was Mule shearlings with twin lambs from JA Simpson, Barnacre. Zwartble ewes with twin Texel lambs sold to £172 from Kelly Armer, who also sold Zwartble sheep with single lambs to £135.
Next week at Lancaster sees a bumper entry of 180 Hoggs with Lambs at Foot.
