Pigs sold to £245 for a pair from PK & R Woof, Stainton with others from this home at £240. Top ppkg was also from the Woofs selling 65kg gilts to 258ppkg or £165. Boars sold to £160 for 75kg from Cowell & Moore, Preston with store pigs topping at £86 from BR Harrison, Staveley and weaners to £62 from Sarah Whitley, Harrogate.
PRIME LAMBS
Sizzling lambs and scorching prices: Summer heat fires up the ring.
Buyers were hot on the heels of all types of lambs especially the well finished end and competition was as fierce as a midday sun on an unshaded back.
Lambs topped today at £213 for a big Charolais lamb from Messrs BR Harrison. The top price per kilo was for a pair of Texels from GR Geldard weighing 47kg and making 400ppk. Todays overall average totalled at 362ppk with again more numbers required to keep up with demand here on a Tuesday. Other lambs sold to 392.3ppk these were for a trio of 39kg from Messrs D & S Robinson. Heavies also in demand with 50kg continental lambs from Messrs S Crowe also hitting 392ppk mark. 43-45kg sheep regularly selling between the £160-£175 zone in saying this though all classes and weights saw good returns today.

CULL SHEEP
Numbers coming forward as farmers look to wean lambs and off load passengers.
Just a handful of the strongest ewes forward selling to £268 for Texels with medium pures and best first cross £190-£215, next draw down £168-£185. Mules sold to £182 with other stronger pens £165-£180, mediums to £140-£155 with harder worked mules £118-£130. Pure hill ewes to £164 for Cheviots, £138 for Swaledales, £132 for Horned, £114 for Rough Fell. Medium rams selling to £200 for Texels, a handful of hoggs still turning up selling to £135.
