Excellent Prime Stock Trade at Lancaster

North West Auctions Lancaster Mart enjoyed a very favourable days trading on Monday. A new Easter show of prime butchers cattle went down very well with local butchers and there were some excellent quality cattle in the market. Judging was in the very experienced hands of Mr Roy Schofield who gave Championship honours to the first prize bullock (pictured above) from Barbara Rayton, Winston. The judge went on to back his decision by purchasing the Champion at 212p/kg (£1081.20) and this was purchased on behalf of M J Birtwistle & Co., butchers of Worsley. Mr Schofield also purchased the top price heifer of the day at 200p/kg, the judge purchased this first prize heifer at £880.28 on behalf of Samuel Howarth Ltd butchers of Diggle. Clean cattle were across the board rather sharper on the week. The special prize for the top price per kilo prime bull was won by TH & D Cornthwaite, Low Tarn Green with an excellent Limousin bull at 183.5p/kg purchased by MJ Birtwistle & Co.
In the sheep ring the early morning sale is continuing to gather momentum with another better than expected entry of prime hoggs which met the dearest trade of the season so far.
