ROUGH FELL BREEDING SHEEP IN MUCH DEMAND

Pictured left to right - N Davis (Sponsor), J E Harding (Judge), B Knowles (Breeder of the Champion Rough Fell in-lamb shearling), E Ashcroft (Sponsor).

North West Auctions Kendal held their first breeding sheep sale of the new year last Saturday morning. A small but tidy entry of commercial in-lamb ewes found plenty of demand on the day for all breeds and many more could have been sold to vendors’ advantage.

The sale also featured a special prize show and sale on behalf of the Rough Fell Sheep Breeders’ Association. An excellent quality entry of Rough Fell Sheep were presented to the judge, Mr J E Harding, who had made the long journey from Caernarfon. He gave championship honours to Messrs Knowles, High Borrowbridge with their First Prize In-lamb Shearling, which went on to make £480 and was purchased by Mr R A Parry of Pantydwr.

Top price of the sale went to G H Capstick & Son, Birkhaw for a very well bred In-lamb Ewe which was purchased by young enthusiast, B J Thompson of Poppy Farm for £580. This event was kindly sponsored by Nigel Davis, Solicitors. Mr Davis is a Rough Fell Sheep Breeder in his own right and has very strong links to the Association.
