Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 13th May 2022

The mid may sale of stirks at Lancaster saw plenty of interest with grazing types especially a strong trade with the recent grass growth. Leading the way was the consignment from R & J Parkinson, Preesall with a packet of Limousin and Aberdeen Angus heifers selling to £965. A pen of nine to ten month old Angus steers from E & J Redmayne, Winmarleigh sold to £825, with the bull trade this week peaking at £755 for British Blues from FW Rhodes & Son, Ellel. A consignment of weanlings from EW & R Towers, Hornby sold to £550 for British Blue bulls with the Fleckviehs selling to £550 and £500.

A good entry of calves forward today saw the quality on offer eagerly bid for. M&C Booth, Kentmere led the way selling six week old suckler bred Simmental bulls to £500 and £490. 2 month old suckler bred Charolais bull calves sold to £450 from GR Bargh & Co, Caton with heifers from the same home selling to £405. British Blue bull calves today were eagerly bid for and in strong demand. JP&C Robson, Garstang led the way selling to £445 and £430. This was followed by the consignment from AJ&AJ Gibons, St Michaels selling British Blue bulls to £445, £410, £405 and £400. Other noted British Blue calf prices were £420 from AD&R Milner, Claughton on Brock. All British Blue bull calves today averaged £373.64. British Blue heifer calves twice sold to £350 from AJ&AJ Gibons, St Michaels.

Store Cattle
Lancaster continues to offer a buoyant trade for all speciations of store cattle, leading the way at £1550 was a Aberdeen Angus steer from L Parsons & Sons, Levens with others to £1530 from I&ME Askew, New Hutton. British Blue steers sold to £1470 from R&J Dodgson, Natland with this closely followed at £1460 for an Aberdeen Angus bullock from MJ Waller, Lupton. British Blue heifers sold to £1480 from M Shepherd & Sons, Pilling with Limousin heifers at £1460 from L Parsons & Sons, Levens. Rounding off a good day for the Parsons Family saw them top the Friesian section at £1360.
OTM / Cast Cattle
Less OTM’s on the market today with 88 forward. The trade remaining just as strong with an impressive overall market average of 195p/kg. Clean Limousin heifers led the way today selling to 279.5p/kg and 274.5p/kg or £1690 and £1625 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton. The bull trade topped the market at £2322 for a five year old Aberdeen Angus making 244.5p/kg from JE&S Seedall, Mellor. A consignment of Limousin beef cows from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead sold to 237.5p/kg or £1959 at seven years old and 231.5p/kg or £1935 at nine years old. Aberdeen Angus cows peaked at £1885 from G Metcalfe & Son, Gressingham. Black & White feeding heifers sold to a top of £1728 from R&A Jolleys, Cabus. Best meated dairy cows today regularly sold around the 210p/kg mark peaking at £1827 from H&A Stephenson, Tunstall this was followed by others to £1711 from RT Halhead, Cockerham and £1681 from Lawsons Farm, Cockerham.
