Sheep
All sheep must be identified on the holding on which they were born, within 9 months of birth or before you move them from the holding they were born on, if that is sooner.
Lambs destined for slaughter (before 12 months of age) must be identified with a Single Electronic Slaughter Tag.
All breeding sheep must be double tagged (both with the same number, one of which must be electronic. This is called ‘full EID’.
If you can, the EID tag should be put in the left ear.
At NWA both our sale sites are designated Central Point Recording Centres, the facilities are at both sites to read your EID tag numbers. Please note that we cannot and do not have to guarantee a full correct EID read.
Cattle
All animals must have two matching ear tags which correspond to the passport.
Pigs
All pigs when out forward for sale through our market must be identified by one of the following:
- An ear tag
- A tattoo on 1 of the animal’s ears
- 2 slap marks applied to both of the pig’s front shoulders using permanent ink
