Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Auction Mart Sale of Calves, OTM and Store Cattle - Friday 10th June 2022.

Calves & Weanlings
It was great to see returning purchasers and fresh faces ringside at Lancaster, with them having a wide choice of 90 calves forward in the market which met plenty of demand. British Blue bulls stole the headlines today peaking at £430 at six weeks old from AJ & AJ Gibbons, St Michaels on Wyre followed by £425 twice and £415 from T & CM Kelsall & Son, Chipping. Other British Blue bulls sold to £410 from C & J Smith, St Michaels on Wyre. Month old Charolais bull calves sold to £390 from M&C Booth, Kentmere with 16 day old Charolais bull calves from the same home selling to £350. The heifers peaked at £385 for British Blues from AD&R Milner, Claughton on Brock with other British Blue heifers to £380 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale, £365 from AJ&AJ Gibons, St Michaels on Wyre. Young beef calves were a sharper trade today with more buyers in the market looking for calves on milk. Black and White bull calves saw Friesians sell to £175 from Drinkall Bros with two more from the same home selling to £150. Once again more interest ringside for calves today at Lancaster with more required to fulfil buyers requirements.

Store Cattle
Today at Lancaster saw a variety of cattle through the store ring with less short-term cattle forward and more long keep cattle on the market. There was still a strong overall market average of £1165. A cracking pen of three Aberdeen Angus bullocks from EW&CR Clegg & Sons, Stalmine led the way selling to £1650 with Beef Shorthorns from the same home selling to £1560. Charolais bullocks from MJ Waller, Kirkby Lonsdale sold to £1600. Aberdeen Angus bullocks sold to £1560 from R&DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling with a pen of five British Blue bollocks to £1510 from SH&LE Birkett, Nether Kellet.
The heifer trade peaked at £1560 for British Blue from WT Eastham & Sons, Goosnargh with a pen of three Charolais heifers to £1550 from R&EA Gardner, Kendal. Dairy bullocks peaked at £1460 for a Montbeliarde from H&JA Gorst, Calder Vale. A pen of four Holstein bullocks sold to £1430 from EJ Hodgson & Son, Kendal.

OTM & Cast Cattle
There was a slightly smaller entry of cast cows 88 forward today with many taking advantage of the dry spell of weather. There was an overall market average of 180p/kg with well over 50% of the entry forward dairy cows including a large proportion of parlour cows. All OTM cattle forward averaged £1112. OTM British Blue heifers led the way twice selling to 249.5p/kg peaking at £1519 from I Atkinson & Son, Warton. Limousin cast steers sold to 239.5p/kg from JD EM JA Atkinson, Kendal. Holstein Friesian steers sold to 214.5p/kg or £1716 from I Atkinson & Son, Warton with Montbeliardes to 229.5p/kg or £1560 from LA Bradshaw, Stalmine. Cast cows sold to a top of 234.5p/kg or £1571 from TA Chapman & Son, Kendal. British Blue x cows topped the market at £1798 from ST Birkett & Son, Carnforth. Aberdeen Angus cows sold to £1567 from G&D Ball & Son, Little Eccleston with Charolais to £1570 from R&J Parkinson, Preesall. Best fleshed dairy cows saw Holstein Friesians sell to 214.5p/kg from Lawsons Dairy Limited, Cockerham grossing at £1791. Others sold to 214.5p/kg was JT Wilson, Bay Horse grossing £1480.
