J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: June Cattle Fair: J36 Sale of Calves, Stirks, OTM, Store and Beef Breeding Cattle, Thursday 9th June 2022.

Calves & Weanlings
All calves at Junction 36 were keenly bid for with many buyers leaving empty handed, British Blue bulls sold to a top of £415 from DW&EA Cottam, New Hutton and £400 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth. All British Blue forward averaged £370. Charolais bulls sold to £320 from M&C Booth, Kentmere with Limousins selling to £320 from D&A Blacoe, Lytham. Heifers sold to a top of £380 for a British Blue from DW&EA Cottam, Kentmere with Charolais selling to £335 from M&C Booth, Kentmere. Continental heifers were regularly selling around the £220-£280 mark. Black and Whites sold to a top of £195 from D&A Blacoe, Lytham with all Black and Whites forward averaging £105. Fleckviehs sold to £165 from RG&JA Clarke, Endmoor.
All stirks forward sold to a sharp trade for the goods on offer. Limousin bulls sold to £1170 from FW Park, Windmere. British Blue steers sold to £860 from Kirkby & Longworth, Littledale. 5 month old Friesian bullocks sold to £440 from Messrs Young, Lindale.

Store Cattle
Topping the sale was a wonderful 12 month old Aberdeen Angus bullock from A&P Hodgkinson, Poulton Le Fylde. Shorthorn bullocks sold to £1295 from TE&A Galbraith, Crooklands. Yearling well-bred bullocks regularly sold either side of the £1000 mark. Heifers sold to a top of £1305 for a Limousin from T Metcalfe, Garsdale who sold others to £1220. Shorthorns sold to a top of £1170 from A Wilson & Son, Skipton with a pen full of Aberdeen Angus heifers selling to £1140 from J Twigge, Lindale. Demand for store cattle remains very strong at Junction 36 with buyers requesting more cattle to fulfil their orders.
Beef Breeding Cattle
The June Breeding Cattle Fair was kingly sponsored by Carrs Billington, Dugdale Nutrition and WCF Fuels. A wonderful show of heifers and cows with calves were put before local and travelled buyers looking to purchase future breeding shock. Class 1 – Cow with Calf at Foot:
1st Lot 248 AT Rogerson, Handlesteads Farm selling for £2400.
2nd Lot 251 AT Rogerson, Handlesteads Farm
3rd Lot 309 GJ&HB Fitzwilliam, Moorhouse Farm selling for £1750.

Class 2 – Heifer with Calf at Foot:
1st Lot 232 JH Woodburn, Mansrigg Hall selling for £2200.
2nd Lot 281 NL&CJ Brown, Claughton Hall Farm selling for £2550.
3rd Lot 273 EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg Head Farm selling for £2420.

Champion - Lot 248 AT Rogerson, Handlesteads Farm, selling for £2400.
Reserve Champion- Lot 232 JH Woodburn, Mansrigg Hall selling for £2200.

The afternoon commenced with breeding bulls with a pure Limousin bull from RS&BA Harker, Holme creating much interest achieving a final bid of £3800. J Woodburn & Partners, enjoyed a brilliant day selling there home bred heifers with calves to todays top price of £2600 for a Limousin with a bull calf. This same good home sold other outfits to £2500. NL&C Brown, Lancaster annual consignment of Limousin heifers with Limousin calves always create much interest with their best outfit selling to £2550. EJ Hodgson & Son, Lambrigg annual consignment of home bred heifers and calves sold to regular customers, with the best selling to £2480 for a Limousin heifer with a bull calf a foot. Cows and calves were well sold with the champion British Blue cows with a British Blue calf from AT Rogerson, Chipping selling to another returning customer at £2400.

OTM Cattle
45 OTM cattle were forward with a fast trade from start to finish, British Blue cows sold to a top of £1876 from BJ Bowness, Kendal with Charolais cows selling to £1548 from R&BJ Cleaseby, Broughton in Furness. Friesian cows topped at £1510 from S&M Cooper, Lease. The best beef bred cows topped at 254p/kg for a Charolais with other beef cows regularly selling at the 240-245p/kg mark. Friesian cows topped at 192p/kg from S&M Cooper, Lease. An overall market average of 182p/kg.
