Calves & Weanlings
The weekly sale of calves at Lancaster saw the trade as buoyant as normal, leading the way at £405 was an Aberdeen Angus bull calf from JK&B Birkett, Morecambe. Other Aberdeen Angus bull calves sold to £390 from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. A run of Hereford weanlings from TE&M Kidd, Ellel sold to £405 and £390. Continental bull calves peaked at £320 for a Limousin from D&M Foster, Out Rawcliffe. Heifer trade peaked at £300 for a British Blue from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham. A run of grazing type Hereford bull calves from JCH&JG Bland, Silverdale sold to £235, £230 and £225 numerous times. Holstein Friesian bull calves peaked at £125 from Wallbank Farms.

OTM Cattle
All vendors left well chuffed with another cracking trade at Lancaster for all speciation’s of OTM’s. An entry of 56 forward saw young Limousin cows sell to 249.5p/kg or £1302 from RM Wilson, Selside with others from the same home selling to 239.5p/kg or £1480. Beef cows peaked at £1752 for a Limousin from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale with Aberdeen Angus cows peaking at £1593 from JD EM JA Atkinson, Kendal. Stealing the headlines today was a consignment of Fleckvieh cows from B&AC Barnes, Middleton selling to £1812 and £1642. Black and White OTM heifers peaked at £1492 from Messrs Gibson & Berry, Endmoor with cows selling to £1452 from F&E Harrison, Wray with others to £1410 from MJ Fell, Whittington. Good meated dairy cows regularly sold between 205-210p/kg.

Dairy Cattle
The fortnightly sale of dairy cattle saw a reduced entry forward for the bank holiday sale, however those forward sold to a competitive trade to a busy ring of keen and eager buyers with several new faced ring side. New calved heifers sold to a top of £2200 for a pedigree heifer Billincoat Secretariat Ruby from GJ Mutton & Son, Barrow in Furness. This heifer being two weeks calved, out of an excellent 94 dam and giving 33 litres. A consignment of in calf heifers from JW&TL Park, Ellel due in July to HF Sex Semen sold to £1880 with others at £1850. The next sale will take place on Friday the 17th June will include a special section for young stock, with keen buyer interested in all classes and types.
