Spring Lambs
The largest entry of spring lambs this season with 705 forward which was met with the strongest trade so far selling to an impressive market average of 337p/kg or £141.96 a head. JS Horner, Ingleton stole the headlines today selling 51kg Texel lambs to £183 with other Texel lambs from the same home to £170 and £164 with Suffolks from this home selling to £165. This consignment averaged £169.80. 49kg Texels from TJ&P Burrow, Milnthorpe sold to £171. Beltexs peaked at £170 from S Rossall, Over Wyresdale whoms consignment averaged £155. Heavy weight lambs from J Singleton, Great Eccleston sold Suffolks to £167 and Texels to £166, with this consignment averaging £155.50. Texels from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth sold to £166, followed by other Texels to £163 from JT&B Fox, Quernmore, £162 from RA Holmes, Inskip, £160 and £159 from A&E Clarkson, Thurnham with J&H Huddleston, Brookhouse selling Texels to £160. Many more pens of lambs regularly sold around the £150 mark. S Wilson & Son, Scotforth saw Texel lambs to 395p/kg or £166 purchased by M Lomax on behalf of Woods Farm Shop, Preston. Another fresh face ring side today at Lancaster meant their was 9 active buyers in attendance all eager to purchase, with more lambs required next week.
Prime Hoggs
There was an entry of just over 100 prime hoggs forward today that saw well fleshed hogg selling to a shaper trade with handy weighted hoggs averaging 261p/kg. Teeswaters topped the market selling to £144 from T&D Wight, Roeburndale East. Texels sold to £141 from T&E Burrow, Slyne with other Texels to £139 from AG Butler, Hambleton. Handy weighted Continental hoggs sold to 315p/kg at 41kg grossing £129 from T&E Burrow.
Cast Sheep
Once again Lancaster enjoyed a buoyant trade for all speciation’s of cast sheep. S Rossall, Over Wyresdale led the way selling a pen of Texels to £204 with others from the same home to £200. Texel x ewes from T&S Blades, Arkholme sold to £202 with plenty of Continentals selling between £150 and £170. Mule ewes peaked at £158 from C&B Lowther, Over Wyresdale, plenty of pens of fit Mule ewes sold between £135-£145. Leicester ewes sold to £150 from S Rossall. Zwartble ewes sold to £144 from J&L Bradshaw, Pilling. Horned sheep saw Dalebreds sell to £110 from T&D Wight, Roeburndale East.
Cast rams continue to be a strong trade with Suffolks selling to £196 and £172 from Pilling Hall, Pilling. Texel peaked at £196 from P Stringfellow, Chorley.
