Calves and Weanlings
An increased entry of 96 calves and weanlings were forward today which saw stronger, well grown types a sharper trade, with young baby calves a stickier trade but as well sold in Lancaster as at any other centres. There was a good selection of weanlings on offer with Fleckvieh bulls selling to £505 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green with other from the same home to £440 and Montbeliardes to £445. Hereford weanlings sold to £485 and £480 for bulls from TE&M Kidd, Ellel, with heifers from the same home to £345. Other Hereford bulls sold to £480 from RE&P Miller, Barnacre. British Blue bull heifer weanlings sold to £470 from AW&AM Clarke & Son, Ellel. British Blue weanling heifers sold to £470 from AW&AM Park & Son, Ellel.
British Blue bull calves peaked at £480 from Andrew Kippax, Churchtown who was making his Lancaster debut. Other British Blue bulls sold to £460 from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping and £445 from Walmsley Beef, Cockerham. A cracking consignment of calves from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping saw Aberdeen Angus bull calves to £410 and British Blues twice selling to £400. The consignment from RJ&KR Wilkinson, Levens saw British Blues to £400 and £380. This was closely followed by Charolais’s to £380 from JE&S Seedal, Mellor. Strong beef calves regularly sold in excess of the £300 mark. A British Friesian bull calf at 2 months and 3 weeks sold to £350 from JR Newsham & Son, Conder Green with weanling Holstein Friesian to £265 from RE&P Miller, Barnacre. As young Friesian bull calves sold to £120 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. All Friesain bull calves today averaged £162.

Store Cattle
The store cattle trade remains very similar as PM&ST Entwistle, Abbeystead took the top spot of the day selling a Limousin steer to £1620. The consignment from L Parsons & Sons, Levens sold a pen of three Aberdeen Angus bullocks to £1470 and a Limousin bullock also to the same price. A pen of three Charolais bullocks from EJ Ward & Sons, Nether Kellet sold to £1470. Also selling in excess of the £1400 mark was A Kirby & Co, Pilling with an Aberdeen Angus. The heifer trade peaked at £1330 for British Blues from R&DM Rossall & Sons, Pilling. Dairy bullocks saw Friesians sell to £1150 from WR Clarke, Pilling with Montbeliardes to £1140 from MJ&LC Lund, Quernmore.

OTM / Cast Cattle
Lancaster enjoyed a strong OTM and cast cow trade today with an impressive overall market average of 146p/kg, young beef cows sold to 249.5p/kg and 224p/kg for Limousins from Ballcutchel Farms, Isle of Man. This was closely followed by British Blue OTM Steers from T&E Burrow, Slyne selling to 217.5p/kg and 209.5p/kg or £1309 and £1330. OTM Holstein heifers sold to 204.5p/kg or £1267 from H Wright & Son, Kendal. Other well fleshed Black and White heifers regularly selling around the 197.5p/kg. Best meated dairy cows sold in the region of 150p/kg, topping at £1231 from H Halhead & Son, Nether Kellet with others to £1158 from Cote Farm Partnership, Nether Kellet, £1149 from GA&A Atkinson, Cantfield and £1129 from JP V J Townley, Quernmore. The cast bull trade peaked at £1536 for an Aberdeen Angus from RG&B Lewis, Middleton.
