Lancaster Auction held its great annual show and sale of 1500 Mule gimmer lambs, once again attracted a good ring side of local buyers, as well as our well-travelled buyers. Lancaster enjoyed a firm overall market average of £128.10, an increase of £23 on the year. A strong line up of lambs forward to the pre-sale show which was judged by Dennis Elliott, Penrith and Daniel Branson, Towcester who we thank for their time and expertise. The first prize pen of 10 gimmer lambs and winning the Alf Burrows memorial cup came from W&A Cornall, Barnacre with these going on to sell for £175. A successful day for the Cornall Family saw them awarded the first prize pen of 20 selling for £145.
Taking top spot was AC&K Pye, Abbeystead selling their first pen of 10 for £200, this was closely followed by RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead selling to £190. Other noted prices saw JS&S Atkinson, Scorton sell to £180, followed by S Park, Aughton sold to £170, B&SE Carter to £165 and at £160 was WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale and T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. Plenty of pens of strong tupping lambs easily selling between £130-£150, with lighter faced tupping lambs regularly selling in the mid £120’s. With running lambs selling between £105-£115.
The £50 prize for the vendor with the highest average for a run of 50 lambs not including a prize pen, was awarded to JS & S Atkinson, Scorton averaging £146.
