PRIME LAMBS
Lancaster held is Christmas bank holiday sale of prime lambs with an entry of 684 forward consisting of a large proportion of hill lambs, selling to an overall market average of 272p.kg. Handy weighted well finished Continental lambs continue to sell in the region of 300p/kg peaking at 320p/kg from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. A shortage of good quality heavy weight lambs today saw the trade peak at £151 from G Bereford & Son, Kirkby in Furness. Followed by heavy weight Texels to £148 from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof. The Mule trade twice peaked at £133.50 weighting 50kg from RH&C Ayrton, Abbeystead with 49kg Mules to £128 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasedale. Horned lambs peaked at £114 for 44kg Dalesbreds from S&J France, Over Wyresdale., with 40kg Dalesbred to £108 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton.
CAST SHEEP
A few more cast sheep were forward today, which saw a similar trade to previous weeks. Texel ewes sold to £126 from G Beresford & Son, Kirkby in Furness followed by other Texel ewes to £121 from JW Cornall & Sons, Bleasedale. Mule ewes peaked at £107 from JW Cornall & Sons. Horned ewes saw Swaledales sell to £86 from JW Cornall & Sons, with Dalesbreds selling to £85 from R Capstick & Son, Ingleton.
