Spring Lambs
The weekly sale of 680 Spring Lambs sold to an average of 203p/kg. Well-meated lambs were selling to a big premium today with buyers very cautious of underfed lambs with these being better suited in the store ring. JM & MH France & Son, Littledale sold a pen of Texel lambs to £110. Heavy weight Texel lambs from E Lund & Son, Ingleton sold to £103 with many heavy Continental lambs selling £90 plus. A run of Beltex lambs from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham sold to £98 or 245p/kg. All well-fed Beltex lambs were selling 230p/kg plus. Suffolk lambs peaked at £92 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne.
There was a bigger show of Mule lambs forward today that sold to £88 from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale with a big from B & SE Carter, Ellel to £82.
Cast Sheep
There was a smaller show of ewes today with many vendors tied up on a six day standstill.
Topping the trade today was A & E Clarkson, Thurnham and TR Prickett, Hutton Roof both selling Texels to £95. Mules this week sold to a top of £77 from T Longton & Son, Quernmore who sold others to £70. Horned sheep this week saw Swaledales sell to £68 from G & K Richmond, Inglewhite with J Smith, Brookhouse selling to £60.
Store Lambs
The fortnightly sale of saw an increased in number of 230 through the ring. Topping the trade today was F & E Harrison, Wray with smart Texel lambs making £82.50. This was closely followed by G & D Ball, Great Eccleston selling to £80. A large show of Mule lambs today saw the trade topping at £67 from PD Pye, Over Wyresdale with others from AC & K Pye, Abbeystead selling to £63.
Cheviot tup lambs from KM & KJ Curwen, Abbeystead made up to £53.50 for long keep lambs. Lonk lambs from Messrs Hey & Sons, Quernmore made £46 for late born lambs.
More lambs are required for our next sale on Monday 31st August with vendors advised to take advantage of the strong trade.
