Lancaster Livestock Auction: Dairy Cattle - Tuesday 18th August

NWA Lancaster held its monthly sale of dairy cattle on Tuesday 18th August 2020, which saw a high-quality catalogued entry attracting buyers from Lancashire, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Cheshire all keen to purchase stock from this popular sale. All vendors must be complimented on the quality of their stock presented today with more needed at each sale to satisfy buyers demand.

Today NWA were pleased to be able to reintroduce the pre-sale show which saw 15 cattle competing in the 2 show classes. The show was kindly and ably judged by JA Greenhalgh, Elswick for which we thank him for his time and expertise.

The Championship rosette was awarded to Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsborrow showing ‘Bilsrow Charley Christina’ being 4 weeks calved and giving 33ltrs. The Reserve Champion rosette was won by GH Sanderson & Family, Kirkham showing ‘Sandley Present 171’ having calved 3 weeks ago giving 29ltrs. The cow class was won by JE & J Pye, Quernmore showing ‘Quernmore Doreeen 258’ producing 37ltrs, 3 weeks into her 2nd lactation.

Today’s sale saw a top price of £2450 achieved by the champion ‘Bilsrow Charley Christina’ being bred from 4 generations of VG excellent and giving a currant lactation of 33ltrs from ‘Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd’ selling to a north Lancashire customer. ‘Bilsrow Applejax Lausine 4’ made up the second part of the prize-winning pair from Tomlinsin Bilsrow Ltd selling to a returning Cheshire buyer at £2350.

A trio of heifers from the Denhamhill herd of EH & R Eccles, Chorley saw ‘Denhanhill District Duchess Red’, bred from a VG88 dam, achieved a final bid of £2280 from RE & P Miller, Barnacre. ‘Denhamhill Marley Kitty 2’, bred from an EX92 dam, sold at £2150 and ‘Denhamhill District Peggy Red’ sold at £2000.

Messrs Drinkall Bros, Abbystead achieved £2180 for ‘Pennine Snowdrift 99’, with ‘Pennine Moonbeam 55’ selling at £2000 and ‘Pennine Poppy 1503’ selling at £1900.

The Reserve Champion ‘Sandley Present 171’ from GH Sanderson & Family, Kirkham sold at £2100.

Top priced cow was today the first prize cow ‘Quernmore Doreen 258’ from JE & J Pye, Quernmore which sold to a Cheshire buyer for £2000.

The next dairy sale at NWA Lancaster will be held on Tuesday 15th September to include first part dispersal of 30-40 In-calf cows and youngstock from a South Cumbria farm further details available in due course. Also today 30-50 pedigree new calved cows and heifers from regular vendors plus annual sale of Holstein Breeding bulls.
