Store Cattle

A bumper entry of 308 strong Store Cattle forward today at NWA Lancaster, with the sale being topped at £1430. There was a total clearance prices over and beyond the vendors expectations, all classes to suit a ringside of regular buyers.

The fast and competitive pace saw a consignment of 2 Limousin bullocks, from CP & VM Cowgill, Bentham make £1430, closely followed by another entry of Angus bullocks from J Hesketh, Hutton to £1410.

Friesian cattle topped at £1180 and £1170 from L Parsons, Low Levens. Younger Charolais breed to £1000 from A & V & A Thornton, Cockerham.

A larger entry of quality store continental store bullocks from S & JE Cornthwaite, Brookhouse we saw to £1380.

Cast Cows

We have done it again…another week with over 100 cows sold meeting a very impressive market average of 137p/kg with well over 60% of the cows forward dairy cows. Young British blue cows lead the way from ST Birkett and Son, Carnforth selling to 207.5p/kg or £1265, who also sold good Limousin cows to 184.5p/kg or £1125. Angus cows today topped at £1233 from EW & A Bradshaw, Stalmine or 1184.5p/kg T Foley, Bolton.

Top of the tree today in the dairy bred cows was a thumping Friesian cow weighing in at 863kg gross £1254 from WG Cornthwaite, Claughton-on-Brock. Friesians topped at 154.5p/kg from MJ Fell, Carnforth, with others at 149.5p/kg AT Burrow, Gressingham. Dairy bred cows averaged 124.5p/kg a planer show of cows from previous weeks.

More cows required week in week out to satisfy our buyers demand

Just a few more OTM heifers in today, topping the trade was AT Burrow, Gressingham grossing £1125 with other from J Burrow & son, Preston at £1017, OTM Steers are always good to sell in the bottom ring topping at £1224 for British Blues from R Baguley, Blackpool.

Just a handful of cast bulls today saw Limousin to 199.5p/kg or £1197 from TA Chapman & Son, Kendal, with Friesians at £936 from W G Farms, Cockerham

Calves & Stirks

What a great selection of calves and weanlings at Lancaster today, with something to suit all and a good number of 87 forward meeting a buoyant trade. Leading the way this week was weanling Limousin steers from B & MJ Nelson, Milnthorpe twice selling to £555. British Blue bull calves from J & G Thornley, Roseacre sold to £485 with Angus bulls from the same home selling to £440. Herefords sold to £425 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale. A large number of Charolais calves in the market today met plenty of demand with Bull calves selling to £375 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale and heifer calves selling to £360 from WG Farms, Cockerham with others selling at £340 plus. Simmental bull calves sold to a top of £350 from JR Newsham and Son, Conder Green. Angus bull calves sold to £340 and £330 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Plenty of beef calves selling over the £300 mark with young 2-3week old beef calves selling between £200 and £250.
