A superb catalogue was produced this month for the NWA & Hassall Brothers monthly sale, the publication was bursting with lustrous pedigrees with many great well-renowned cow families represented. The sale continues to deliver the quality which it has a great reputation for, this month was no exception as already mentioned the paperwork was top notch and indeed the animals matched in the form of quality with a shed full of quality; Great to see the interest in pedigrees over the last few months.
The judge for the day was a regular supporter of the sale David Wallbank who did an excellent job and once again had a magnificent group of cattle to judge! Thanks must go to the continued support of our sponsors once again and for their attendance at the sale including Shire Leasing, Wynnstay Farmers, J Hatton Agriculture and Elenco.
The sale shed was alive with atmosphere today with lots of people watching the show and then moved through to the sale ring, the usual buyers were attendance plus some new faces which were great to see, which resulted in 13 animals cruising over £2,000 and resulting in a wonderful trade throughout, which led to a very credible average.
The champion animal was consigned by H Wright & Son of Kendal who had a super line up of heifers on the day to average £2,436.66. Berryholme Snowy Erle bred from 10 generations of cows scored Very Good or Excellent from this tremendous line up of cows. This heifer seriously looked the part yielding 35.kg daily and won then non halter led class and then went on to be crowned champion and then was purchased in the sale ring by the judge Wallbank Farms Ltd of Over Wyresdale for £3,600.
The Reserve champion was from Enchanted Holsteins who was the 1st prize heifer in the halter led class, Enchanted Mozarlla Ronnie weighing in at 30kg daily she was sold to our judge for the day David Wallbank for £2,300.
Selling for £2,550 was Bilsrow Goodwone Shower 5th bred from 8 generations of cows scored in the top two grades tracing back to the Glen Drummond Shower (EX) this heifer yielding 32.kg was secured by E Roper & Sons of Thornley, Preston, they also took home with them Berryholme Abbott Flo 2nd for £2,550 from H Wright & Son bred from 7 generations of Very Good or Excellent. Also from the same home was Berryholme Cinderdoor Flo yielding 32kg daily and sold for £2,350 to G J Mutton & Sons of Barrow in Furness.
Berryholme Cinderdoor Rose realised at £2,500 this 11 generational pedigree from the Stookey Elm Park Blackrose ET (Ex96) yielding 35kg daily she was secured by Crossfell House Farm Ltd of Kirby Thore who bought several other astute lots.
Stardale Corvette Vaakje 2nd from J Burrow & Son sold for £2,450 to Cote Farm Partnership of Nether Kellet of Lancashire.
M J & H Atkinson of Quernmore achieved £2,300 for Wyredale Mogul Content 51st (GP83) yielding 30kg daily secured by Wallbank Farms Ltd, also from team Atkinson came Wyredale Roble Kate 51st who sold for £2,250 to Cote Farm Partnership.
