Sheep with Lambs
This week saw a larger entry of Sheep with Lambs at Foot forward with 53 families forward with more interest ringside this week. Correct aged Mule ewes with Continental twins sold to £170 and £168 from TW Gorst, Crook with broken mouthed Mule ewes selling to £168 from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Continental ewes with single lambs sold to £130 from TW Gorst, Mules with single Continental lambs sold to £128 for correct sheep from the same home, with broken mouthed Mule ewes also achieving the same price from D & K Swarbrick.
More sheep with lambs at foot are required each week with vendors asked to contact the office for advertising.
Prime Hoggs
There was 702 Prime Hoggs forward today with a very mixed show of hoggs on offer. Once again, well-fed Continental in specification hoggs sold in excess of the 200o/kg mark. Leading the way today was Beltex hoggs from JG Harryman, Hawkshead topping at £104.50 or 243p/kg with others to £100 or 235p/kg with a further four pens selling to £99. Texel hoggs sold to 216p/kg or £93 from GM & A Jackson, Little Eccleston. Heavy weight hoggs were a sharper trade this week selling to £96 from JR Robinson, Endmoor with Texels and Charollais to the same price from AJ Robinson, Yealand Redmayne. Plenty of pens of hoggs sold into the early nineties. More Continental and Suffolk hoggs are required to fulfil buyer’s requirements.
Upland hoggs saw Mules sell to £83.50 for a pen of 36 50kg hoggs from DI Holliday of Clapham. Other Mules sold to £80.50 from R & EA Gardner, Brigsteer. Horned hoggs saw Swaledales twice sell to £76 from GM & A Jackson and WI & A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale.
Cast Sheep
There was a slightly larger entry of cast ewes forward in which more could have easily of been sold to the advantage of vendors. All ewes were a sharper trade especially Mules and leaner types. Topping the market this week was Leicester ewes selling to £108 from JA & CA Gibson, Selside with Continental ewes selling to the same price. Texel ewes sold to a top of £104 from J Twigge, Lindale with others achieving £100 form W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe. All Texel ewes averaged £79.94. Suffolk ewes topped at £99 from J & O Galbraith & Son, Endmoor. Plenty of Continental and Suffolk ewes easily sold into the nineties this week.
Mule ewes were noticeably a sharper trade this week topping at £89 from C Barker, Morecambe, £88 from TH Gibson & Son, Kendal, £87 from S Butterfield, Ulverston with I Edmondson, Ulverston also achieving the same price. Plenty of pens of big heavy weighted Mule ewes sold beyond the eighty pound mark.
Upland ewes topped at £84 for Cheviots from the Isle of Man with others Cheviots selling to £79 from RW Nicholson, Lupton. Swaledales sold to a top of £48, twice from M & D Hatton, Broughton Mills and D & J & A Freeman, Troutbeck. All Swaledale ewes forward this week averaged £44.60.
All ewes forward averaged £65.27.
Tups sold to £103 from the Isle of Man with all tups forward in the market this week averaging £83.18.
A couple of goats on offer today sold to £67 from DW Hudson, Kendal.
