Spring Lambs
There was once again over 500 Spring Lambs forward this week selling to an average, very much in line with other markets, of 211p/kg. Once again, good conformation lambs were in high demand at Lancaster and easily selling in excess of the 220p/kg. Topping the market today at 236p/kg was Charollais from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe. Texels sold to 235p/kg from S Wilson & Son, Scotforth purchased by Gregory Williams Butchers, Lancaster. Other Texel lambs sold to 233p/kg and 230p/kg from D & K Swarbrick, Out Rawcliffe. Topping the market today at £105 was Texel lambs from GH Sanderson & Son, Catforth, £104 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale and £100 S Wilson & Son. Suffolks sold to a top of £103 from G Sagar & Son, Caton and £99 from JJ & M Metcalfe, Casterton. Charollais sold to a top of £97 from DJ Casson & Son, Slyne with Dorsets selling to £96 from MJ & LC Lund, Quernmore.
Prime Hoggs
Prime hogg numbers are beginning to dry up very quickly now with an improvement in the trade this week. Texel hoggs sold to a top of £84 from DM Cardwell, Stalmine with Swaledales selling to £78 from JA Simpson, Barnacre. Plenty of well-fleshed hoggs sold in the seventies.
Cast Sheep
There was a smaller entry of Cast Sheep this week which saw an improvement in the trade. Texel tups topped the market at £98 and £96 from DM Cardwell, Stalmine. Charollais ewes sold to £87 from JA Lambert, Out Rawcliffe with Texels selling to the same price from A & E Clarkson, Thurnham and Suffolks to £86 from TM Townley, Over Wyresdale. Mule ewes sold to a top of £78 from GH Sanderson & Family, Catforth with others selling to £74 from FW Rhodes & Son, Ellel.
