Prime Hoggs

The weekly sale of Prime Hoggs saw a very buoyant trade for all specifications with a busy active ring of buyers who could have bought a lot more lambs, with more numbers required each week. There was an overall market average of 193p/kg. The trade topped at 232p/kg for Texel hoggs from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof with others from the same home selling to 220p/kg. There was plenty of Continental hoggs easily selling in excess of 200p/kg. Top price per head today was £100 for Texels from TR Prickett, who also sold pens to £99 and £95. The Suffolk trade was topped at £91from T & E Burrow, Sylne. Hill bred hoggs saw Cheviots sell to a top of £90 or 200p/kg from TR Prickett. Mules topped at £79 from T Ayrton & Son, Over Wyresdale with Horned lambs selling to £77 or 198p/kg from WM Pye, Lancaster with Swaledales topping at £76 from T Ayrton & Sons.

Cast ewes sold to a top of £75 from T & ME Longton & Son, Quernmore with Mules topping at £59 from WM Pye, Lancaster. Goats sold to a top of £59 from SW Peacock, Cockerham.
