Store Cattle

There was an entry just short of 300 that saw all cattle a good trade throughout with good quality stores on offer. Leading the way today was an Angus bullock from JD & GM Bracken, Cattrall who also sold Angus bullocks for £1360 and £1350. Angus heifers sold to a top of £1370 from J Hesketh, Hutton. Continentals saw Charolais bullocks from at £1340 from DE & SM Moorhouse, Natland with Limousins from the same good home selling to £1310. British Blues sold to a top of £1310 from H & JA Gorst, Caldervale. Plenty of Continental bullocks selling in the mid to late twelve hundreds, with Continental heifers selling to a top of £1190 from Barlow Brothers, Croston for Simmentals closely followed by £1180 for Charolais from TM Pye & Partners, Lancaster. Bland and whites sold to a top of £1130 for feeding heifers from JM & A Wallbank & Sons, Wray with bullocks topping at £1050 from M & M Carr, Burton. Other black and white bullocks sold to £1010 from WR Clarke, Pilling.

OTM Cattle

There was an entry of 91 OTMs forward this week selling to a strong trade throughout for all specifications of cattle of which more are required each week and can be sold to the vendors advantage. OTM heifers sold to a top price of 189.5p/kg from AS & D Parker, Nateby. Limousin OTM heifers sold to 184.5p/kg from F & JM Mason, Kirkby Lonsdale. Limousin cows topped the trade today at 174.5p/kg from B & SE Carter, Ellel grossing at £1188, the day’s top price per head. Young black and white cows sold to a top of 154.5p/kg from AW & AM Park & Sons, Ellel with others to 149.5p/kg from J & M Robinson, Over Kellet. Dairy cows sold to a top of 137.5p/kg for Montbeliardes from WR & CM Lawrenson, Winmarghleigh with other Montbeliardes to 134.5p/kg from DJ Townley, Lancaster. Bland and white cows also achieved this price from WG Farms, Cockerham. There was an overall market average for all cows forward of 114p/kg with black and whites selling to an overall market average of 105p/kg.

Calves and Stirks

There was an entry in the mid forties for calves this week that saw black and whites selling to another buoyant trade at Lancaster in which more are required to fulfil buyer’s requirements. Beef calves saw an up and down trade with one or two buyers unable to attend due to the snow. The trade was topped at £405 for British Blue bulls from J & G Thornley, Kirkham who sold others to £375 and £370. Angus’ sold to a top of £315 for Bulls from Wallbank Farms, Over Wyresdale. Plenty of beef calves selling in the mid two hundreds. Black and whites sold to a top of £95 from WM & D Smith & Sons, Cockerham with others to £88 from JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall with plenty of calves easily between £65 and £85, with more needed week on week.
