Prime Lambs

There were over 600 Prime Lambs forward this week selling to a market average of 170p/kg, the trade being slightly easier on the week. Good quality and well-fleshed lambs were in strong demand and good to sell.

The trade topped at £97.50 from JK & BE Townley of Mearsbeck or 217p/kg, with plenty of good confirmation Texel lambs selling into the 190’s. Heavy weight Texel lambs topped at £90 from Andrew Butler of Hambleton. There were more hill lambs on offer this week with 45kg Mules selling to £76 from JS & S Atkinson of Sykes Farm with Mules often selling in the region of £30 over their weight. Swaledale lambs sold to £69 from KJ & KM Curwen of Marshaw farm.

Cast Sheep

The trade was slightly less for cast sheep today, with all buyers present looking for ewes but large numbers out nationally last week lead to slightly less demand. Texel ewes sold to a top of £74 from J Bargh and Son of North Farm with Mule ewes selling to a top of £66 from PW & DW Roskell of Springfield House. Horned ewes topped at £44 from WM Pye of Tarnwater.
