J36 Crooklands Livestock Auction: J36 Weekly Sale of Prime Lambs and Cast Sheep, Tuesday 18th October 2022.

Prime Lambs

The weekly sale of prime lambs had an entry of just shy of 1200 forward, selling to an overall market average of 222p/kg. The trade today saw well fleshed lambs of all sizes in the strongest demand, those lambs lacking finish getting financially penalised. A slight change in market trends saw handy weighted export quality lambs selling to a sharper trade and in more demand from our ring of buyers. Heavy weight lambs still add up best but as more are now available in the country trade not just as fast as it was. The consignment of heavy weight lambs from F&SA Edmondson, Ulverston peaked at £144 & £133 for Suffolks and £138 for Texels who sold heavy weight mules for £133. Other leading prices saw Suffoks to £136 from WT Whitaker & Son, Nether Kellet. Other leading prices from Texels was £134 from E&J Redmayne, Winmarleigh. Followed by £133 & £130 from TMW&H Hodgson, Ulverston. Other Texels selling in excess of the £130 mark was AW Crowe, Witherslack £132.50. Mules peaked at £136 from HR&KR Hodgson, Barbon. More quality finished lambs each week.

Cast Sheep

All cast sheep sold to a sharper trade today, with Texel ewes selling to £132 from RJ Stott, Stainton with other Texel ewes selling to £128 from RH & M Boyren, Colton. The best Texel ewes selling from £115-125. Mule ewes were the sharpest trade of the day selling to a top of £124 from M&M Carr, Clawthorpe, with a pen of 14 selling to £111 from KE Richards & Son, Howgill. The best end regularly getting over the £110 mark with the next level down £90-£95. A leaner show of hill ewes were forward with a pen of cheviots selling to £74 from GG&MA Long, Ulverston. With Swaledales selling to £55 from JM&NJ Strickland, Winfell. Meated Swaledales ewes regularly selling from £45-50.
