Prime Lambs
Lancasters Monday sale of prime lambs had an entry of 825 lambs forward, selling to a sharper trade especially for handy weighted lambs. Although the market average reads 223p/kg, the entry did include 303 Mule and Horned lambs with upland lambs being well bid for. Heavy weight lambs once again took top spot peaking at 142p/kg for Texels from T&CM Kelsall & Sons, Chipping followed by Dutch Spotted x lambs to £141 from Vanda Whitton, Burneside. This was followed by a run of heavy weight Texel lambs from RC Billington & Son, Claughton on Brock selling to £141, £140 and £134. Plenty more pens of heavy weight lambs sold in the one twenties. Upland lambs saw heavy weight Mules to £120 from T&H Drinkall, Oakenclough and £118 from JR&LA Capstick, Kirkby Lonsdale followed by £116.50 and £115.50 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale. Mashams sold to £119.50 from T&D Wright, Roeburndale East followed by £117 from WI&A Atkinson & Son, Bleasdale.
Handy weighted lambs were a shapier trade with the best quality selling in excess of 300p/kg. Leading the way today at 315p/kg was 40kg Texels from TR Prickett, Hutton Roof selling to £126, this was followed by 308p/kg for a shapey Beltex lamb from Kevin Purtill, Wigan selling to £123.
More Horned lambs on the market today saw 53kg Dalesbreds to £115 from T&D Wright, Roeburndale East with Lonks peaking at £100 from S Bosworth, Burnley.
Cull Sheep
The trade remains parallel to previous weeks, Suffolk x ewes led the way selling to £120 from G&K Richmond, Inglewhite with other Suffolk x ewes to £108 from CP&V Cowgill, Mewith. Texel x ewes sold to £116 and £115 from Myerscough College. Mule ewes peaked at £102 from Sam Ayrton, Thurnham with plenty of others in the late nineties. Upland sheep saw dalesbred tups sell to £94 from D&J Hay, Cockerham. Cheviot ewes sold to £89 and £84 from P&M Asbury, Abbeystead. Horned sheep saw Swaledale ewes sell to £72 from KM&KJ Curwen, Abbeystead with other Swaledale ewes to £70 from T Ayrton & Sons, Over Wyresdale. Lonk ewes sold to £70 from S Bosworth, Burnley.
