Prime Lambs
The weekly sale of prime lambs at J36 had an entry of 1172 forward which sodl to a market average 240p/kg. The trade saw well fleshed lambs with weighting continuing to be the best to sell and adding up best. Taking top spot this week at £164 was heavy week Texel lambs from WG & D Wilkinson, Blawith followed by others to £153 from J & E Nuttall, Kendal. Heavy weight Charollais lambs sold to £147 and £138 from RJ Stott, Kendal. Plenty more sold in the region of £130. Heavy weight Mules sold to £119 and £115.50 from Drinkall Bros, Over Wyresdale with other Mules selling to £116 from R & E Ladds, Kendal.
Lighter leaner types met a selective trade and would meet more demand in the store lambs sale.
Cast Sheep
800 cast ewes were forward with trade as seen in other local markets less on the week but still well meated ewes sold to a competitive trade. Texels led the way selling to £148 from S Mawson & Son, Orton with other Texel ewes sold to £147 from M&S Blease, Carnforth. Suffolks sold to £120 from W Garnett & Son, Milnthorpe. Mule ewes sold to a top of £109 from A Page, Fairbank with the best regularly selling over the £100 mark. Hill bred ewes were harder to place today with Cheviots selling to £90 twice from J&J Beary, Penrith and MP&CE Buckley, Staveley. Rough Fells sold to £90 from J&PR Woof, Sedbergh. More tups on the market today with Texels selling to £150 from S Mawson & Son, Orton and Charollais to £148 from JW&TE Sharp, Lyth.
