Gimmer Lambs
The sale of Continental Gimmer Lambs was a huge success with all vendors leaving with a smile on their face. We thank our pre-sale judge Mr John Balman for his time and expertise. An excellent show was put forward for him and we thank the vendors for the quality of gimmer lambs on offer, the champion pen was awarded to RA Batty, Selside. The sale saw well grown Texel gimmer lambs selling to a massive premium with the second place pen of ten from JG&PH Thompson, Selside selling to £188, with RA Batty’s champion pen of ten selling to £178. Regular away the best Texel x gimmer lambs suitable for tupping were selling at £145-£155 mark. Texel’s out of Mule’s saw keener interest from local and travel buyers selling to a top of £148 from LE&A Ridding, Selside with these regularly selling to £120-£130 mark. A lovely run of Suffolk Mule gimmer lambs from TA&JA Dixon, Selside sold to a top of £130.

Store Lambs
The fortnightly sale of Store lambs at North West Auction J36 Rural Centre had 2500 forward selling to a strong trade with an overall market average of £81.30 a head. The trade for strong forward lambs and medium keep lambs continues to be very strong and in demand with long term smaller lambs meeting less demand today then previous weeks. The sale peaked at £108 for continental store lambs from DJ & SB Clark, Clitheroe. The consignment of beltex x lambs from PD & P Mason, Burton in Kendal sold to £108 twice, £100 and £99. A run of strong forward store lambs from B & D Willison & Son Levens sold to £106, £104 with others to £96. The consignment from Ian Dixon, Low Newton sold to £99.50 for Texel lambs with other leading prices for Texel’s being £98.50 from JM Haddow, Milnthorpe followed by £98.50 and £96.50 from JM Harrison, Broughton in Furness. Plenty more strong pens of Texel lambs selling in the early nineties. Suffolk lambs sold to £86.50 from JF & AW Sutton, Long Sleddale followed by £86 from GM Redmayne, Ings. Strong mule lambs continue to be in demand selling to a top of £86 from Ian Dixon, Low Newton followed by £85.50 from JF & AW Sutton, Long Sleddale and £85 from Fishwick Bros, Long Sleddale. Plenty of pens of strong mules selling in the early eighties. Cheviot mules sold to a top of £85.50 from HM Hodgson, New Hutton.
