Dairy heifers sell to £2500 at NWA Lancaster
The monthly sale of dairy cattle at NWA Lancaster saw an increased entry forward with a wide variety on offer at this popular sale.
The pre sale show was kindly judged by Mr Alan Robson who had a wonderful show of 19 cattle put before him on the four show classes.
The championship rosette was awarded to Wyredale Mopan Content 55 exhibited by MJ & H Atkinson, Quernmore. This much admired heifer was bred from an EX90 dam and sired by Morpan ET. This heifer saw Mark and Heather win the championship rosette for the third consecutive month for which they must be congratulated on this rare achievement.
The reserve champion rosette was awarded to Stardale Vamlet Vaakje from J Burrow & Son, Barton, this heifer was sired by a homebred bull Stardale Vamlet and supported by a line of 12 generations of EX dams.
The cow class was won by JE & J Pye, Quernmore showing Quernmore Charm 101 fresh into her 2nd lactation.
The September prize show for breeding bulls saw the first prize rosette awarded to Kirkwood Pedro shown by H & SD Cornthwaite, Nateby.
The sale peaked at £2500 for Liscabank Verify Nora, bred from a line of 6 Generations of VG/EX cows exhibited by returning vendors AB & J Parkinson & Son, Out Rawcliffe.
This was closely followed by WG Cornthwaite & Son, Claughton On Brock selling Garsby Morpan Pandora 2 for a final bid of £2400. Wyredale Superstyle Monica 225 from MJ & H Atkinson, Quernmore was one bid behind achieving £2350. The much admired heifer Sweetings Altamontoya Jewel from Lawsons Farm achieved a final bid of £2200. Returning vendors J Burrow & Son, Barton saw the best of their trio sell at £2150 for the reserve champion Stardale Vamlet Vaakje, EH & R Eccles, Chorley sold the best of their consignment, Denhamhill Aftershock Daisy at £2000. Other heifers of interest included Tunstall Arino Jill Red achieving £1820 from JH Towers, Carnforth and a Brown Swiss heifer Genesis Blooming Lovely from AE & A Swale, Blackburn selling at £1800.
New calved cows sold to £1600 for a second calver from JE & J Pye, Quernmore and a 3rd calver from EA & E Lund & Son, Carnforth selling at £1320.
In calf cows sold to £1250 for a cow carrying her second calf from PA Fargher, Isle of Man.
The sale of bulls saw a top price of £1400 for Pennine Nintendo from Drinkall Bros, Lancaster with Kirkwood Pedro from H & SD Cornthwaite, Nateby selling at £1300 and AH Price & Son, Clapham selling Jackbeck Double Dealer at £1200.
