North West Auctions held its renowned annual ‘Lads Night Out’ sale of Terminal sire breeding rams with a great catalogued entry of 844. The sale saw buyers looking to purchase good confirmation and powerful rams as well throughout the day.
Ring one saw the sale of Texel, Beltex and Beltex cross tups with best tups sold in excess of £1000 with plenty of good powerful tups selling between £700 and £1000. The sale commenced with the Texel tups. The consignment from W & MM Case, Ulverston lead the way with the much-admired pen of pure Texel shearlings peaking at £1600 and £1100, with an impressive pen average of £916.
The consignment from PW & D Swindlehurst, Underbarrow sold to a top of £1,100. Selling to a top of £1,000 was the pen leader from Harry Geldard, Levens. At £950 was Texel shearlings from JG & PH Thompson, Selside, AR & BJ Thompson, Selside and T & CM Kelsall & Son, Chipping with others from the same home selling to £900. All Texel tups forward averaged £516. Aged Texel tups sold to a top of £1000 for a pedigree three shear stock tup from C Shuttleworth, Ulverston. Texel tup lambs sold to a top of £600 from RJ Frankland, Rathmell, with others selling to £400 from James Porter, Long Marton and W Holden & Sons, Oswaldtwistle twice. A consignment of Texel x Leicester tups from Libby Winspear, Hawes selling to a top of £900.
Beltex cross tups sold to a top of £1,050 from Kevin Sowerby, Ormside with others from the same home selling to £900. Charolais x Beltex tups from JA & R Geldard, Levens sold to £850 four times. This was closely followed by £820 and £800 from J Wales, Carlisle. Pedigree Beltex tups sold to £800 from C Cochran, Darwen.
Ring 2 saw the sale of MV accredited rams and females, multi-breed and Suffolk tups. The sale commenced with the MV Rams sold to a top price of £400 achieved for a Beltex x shearling from B & A Crane, Darwen with another Beltex x achieving £400 from Messrs Graham, Plumpton. Texel shearlings sold to £380 and Texel ram lambs peaked at £360 from R Darlington, Buxton.
The individual females sold to a top of £320 and £300 for Texel shearlings from Lucas & Nairey, Blackburn. The consignment from James Duerden, Lindal saw Charollais x Beltex sell to £280 and £250 twice.
The Charollais section saw RJ & J Towers Ltd, Ingleton sold the best of their run to a market top price of £520 with MS & AP Lee, Arkholme selling to £320 which was also achieved by J Stott Jnr, Stainton. All Charollais shearlings sold to an average of £318.
ME Evans, Denbigh sold a ram lamb at £440 with S Cummings, Waberthwaite close behind at £420, others from J Sottt Jnr sold to £250. All lambs averaged £290.
The sale of Suffolks saw well-grown rams with power and strength selling to a keen interest and topping at £720 from TA Blair, Poulton le Fylde with others at £680 from AR Edmondson, Ulverston £650 from RA Batty, Selside and £600 from RA & L Hodgson, Patton and JH Towers & Sons, Tunstall.
Medium tups were a more selective trade with all Suffolk shearlings sold averaging £390.
Ram lambs sold to £440 again from TA Blair who sold others at £400 and £360. £350 was achieved by SC Walker, Tarporley and £320 from Messrs Hewson, Carlisle. All lambs averaged £285.
A 3 shear ram from JH Towers & Sons sold at £300.
