Prime Lambs
A bigger show of Prime Lambs were forward this week, with 1420 lambs going under the hammer, selling to an overall market average of 183p/kg and an SQQ of 187p/kg.
Best conformation and well fleshed lambs were in strong demand and easily sold in excess of the 205p/kg mark. Topping at 2.28p/kg for Beltex lambs. Texel lambs topped at £101.50 for J Perrem, Grasmere, with others to £99 twice from E Dodgson, Kendal and DJ & AF Freeman, Troutbeck.
A run of 30 Beltex lambs from GH Bell, Red Lodge topped at £96.50 with others to £94.50 from S P Pease, Kirkby Lonsdale. Heavy Suffolk lambs sold to £98 from R & J Dodgson, Natland.
Hill bred lambs saw Mashams top the section at £87 from JE Read, Hutton Roof with Mules to the same price twice from B & JM Crowe and Fishwick Bros. A pen of 63 39kg Mules made £76 from J Longworth, Dunnerdale. Heavy Cheviot lambs peaked at £89 from S Crawford, Staveley.
All weights of lambs were keenly competed for with 2000+ lambs needed next week to meet buyers demand.

A reduced entry of cull ewes and rams were on offer this week met an outstanding trade with two new buyers at the ringside.
Beltex ewes from Messrs JA & K Allen, Ings sold to £120.00. Mr E Dodgson, Kendal sold Texels to £111.00, £109.00 and £103.00. Mr D A Sunter, Old Hutton sold Texels to £101.00. Texel crosses from Messrs JS & KM Wilson & Son (High House) and Messrs JW & A Matthews, Patton both reached £93.00, whilst Messrs TH & D Cornthwaite & Son and JC Dunning both sold to £91.00.
Charollais crosses from JM Haddow, Hincaster sold to £97.00. Suffolks from MJ Waller, Lupton sold to £95.00.
Mules met an excellent enquiry with Messrs B & J Crowe selling to £82, Messrs RR & JA Knowles to £81 and Messrs JJ & MA Park & Son to £80.00.
Hill ewes were also good tos ell with Rough Fell ewes from Mr C P Bateman selling to £74, Mrs PE Allen to £68, J E Read to £60 and Messrs T L B & J Knowles also selling to £60.
Forest Hall Farm Partnership sold Cheviot ewes to £76.00.
Swaledale ewes also met strong competition with Messrs JH Atkinson and Partners leading the way at £62.00 and Messrs MW & M Hodgson selling to £59.00. Dalesbreds from R Capstick & Son sold to £59.00 and Herdwicks from R W Ewan sold to £55.00.
Many more ewes could have been very well sold.
Cast rams met a flying demand with Matson Farms Ltd selling Dorset Down rams to £121.00. Cheviot rams from Forest Hall Farm Partnership sold to £118 and £108. Texels from JC Dunning sold to £115.00, whilst David Thompson sold to £101. Charollais from Matson Farms Ltd sold to £104 twice whilst the same vendor sold Lleyns to £100. Mr MK Robinson sold Blue Faced Leicesters to £96.00.
